This attic in Whitesboro was losing energy due to outdated fiberglass insulation, major air leaks, and poor ventilation, common issues that lead to drafts, uneven indoor temperatures, and higher heating and cooling costs throughout the year.
To improve performance, we removed the existing insulation and fully air sealed key problem areas around light fixtures, plumbing penetrations, and the chimney. Ventilation was upgraded with proper airflow and soffit intake improvements, while insulation dams were installed along the catwalk for protection and structure. The catwalk was rebuilt using 4" rigid foam board topped with OSB for durable attic access and storage, with dense-packed cellulose installed beneath for complete thermal coverage. We also removed the old whole-home vent fan, attic hatch, and attic fan, then repaired and refinished the affected drywall areas.
The attic was finished with 14" of blown-in cellulose insulation to achieve an R49 insulation value for long-term energy efficiency and comfort. Using materials such as cellulose insulation, rigid foam board, OSB, ventilation components, spray foam, and sealants, the result is a tightly sealed, properly ventilated attic built for improved home performance and year-round comfort.
