Winter may still be months away, but summer is a great time to prepare your home for the cold weather ahead.

Large icicles and ice dams can develop when heat escapes from the living space into the attic, causing snow on the roof to melt and refreeze along the colder roof edges.

The good news is that you don't have to wait until winter to address the conditions that contribute to ice dams.

Before the snow arrives, consider:
✅ Improving attic insulation to reduce heat transfer
✅ Air sealing attic gaps where warm air can escape
✅ Checking attic ventilation to help maintain proper airflow
✅ Addressing problem areas early before winter weather arrives

Taking care of these improvements during the warmer months gives you time to prepare your home before temperatures drop and snow begins to accumulate.

If you want to be ready for winter, and reduce the risk of ice dam problems. now is a good time to have your attic evaluated.

The final steps are securing each component and testing the unit to make sure everything works properly. The heater unit is tilted into place and secured with two bolts. Next, the fan unit is fitted into the housing and secured with a screw.

Each wire connector is then plugged into its corresponding connection point to ensure the light, fan, and heater are properly connected. Finally, the cover is installed and the unit is tested. The light, fan, and heater are all working properly, completing the installation and leaving the bathroom fan ready for reliable use.

Replacing an existing bathroom exhaust fan can be more challenging than a new installation. The included mounting brackets are designed to fit between ceiling joists, but in a retrofit, the existing drywall, framing, and limited space can make them difficult to use.

The new fan was tight against a joist, leaving no room to install the brackets as intended. We modified the mounting method by securing the fan body directly to the joist and using part of the bracket to provide additional support on the opposite side.

A secure installation that works with the existing framing, followed by properly tightened wire connections using quality wire nuts. For replacement projects, the standard brackets are generally better suited for new construction or remodels where there is more access from above.

The existing electrical service needed an upgrade to safely support the home’s new heat pump water heater and provide additional capacity for future electrical needs.

Our team installed a new 200-amp electrical service and panel, including the necessary wiring, breakers, and connections for a reliable and properly organized electrical system.

The result is a safer, more capable electrical service with the capacity to support the home’s current needs and future upgrades.

Replacing a bathroom exhaust fan requires more than simply removing the old unit.

For this project, we accessed the existing fan through the attic, disconnected the duct and wiring, labeled each connection, and measured the ceiling opening to ensure the new Broan BHFLED110 would fit properly. We also removed the internal components during installation to make the fan housing lighter and easier to secure.

The result is a properly fitted and securely installed bathroom exhaust fan.

This bathroom fan had heavy dust buildup, an aging motor, and a melted cover around the heater assembly, a sign that the unit was experiencing excessive heat and may not have been operating safely.

We started by safely shutting off the power, labeling the wiring, removing the fan and heater components, and inspecting the existing setup. The damaged and outdated fan was then replaced with a newer Broan BHFLED110 bathroom exhaust fan.

A bathroom exhaust fan that is dusty, outdated, or not properly installed can lead to poor airflow, excess moisture, and potential issues like mold growth, odors, and reduced indoor comfort.

In this project, the existing fan was inspected to evaluate its condition and determine the best approach for the installation. The Broan BHFLED-110 vent fan was prepared by removing the cover, accessing the internal components, inspecting the motor, and locating the heater assembly screws to safely disassemble the unit.

Using proper hand tools and careful inspection techniques, the fan components were assessed to identify buildup, wear, and installation requirements. This process helps ensure the new ventilation system is installed correctly, improves bathroom airflow, and provides better moisture control.

The Broan BHFLED-110 features an adjustable color temperature LED light and delivers 110 CFM of airflow, making it a great option for new construction and remodel applications. However, understanding the limitations of each fan model is important, especially when considering retrofit or replacement projects.

Proper bathroom ventilation helps protect your home by reducing excess humidity, preventing moisture-related damage, and improving overall indoor air quality.

A melted bathroom exhaust fan cover is more than just a cosmetic issue, it can be a sign that something isn't working as it should.

Over time, bathroom exhaust fans can develop problems that cause excessive heat. Common causes include a worn-out motor, loose electrical connections, restricted airflow from dust or a clogged vent, or using the wrong light bulb in fan/light combination units.

If you notice any signs of melting, discoloration, a burning smell, or unusual noises, it's best to stop using the fan until the cause has been identified. While the melted cover itself isn't always the problem, it often points to an issue inside the fan that should be addressed.

A properly functioning bathroom exhaust fan helps remove excess moisture, improve air quality, and protect your home from mold and mildew. Routine cleaning and periodic inspections can also help prevent overheating and extend the life of the fan.

Ignoring warning signs like this can lead to more expensive repairs, and in some cases, create a safety risk. If your bathroom fan shows signs of heat damage, having it inspected or replaced is the safest course of action.
