This is not the normal type of work we usually agree to do, but it was the best fix for the situation. Customer wanted to take up old broken up asphalt and replace with gravel. I expressed gravel would work, but due to the hill, the water runoff coming off the pavement, it would cause excess maintenance to keep the gravel in good shape. We took up old pavement, removed tree roots, placed a gravel base and spread 8 ton of asphalt.

This driveway is both steep and long. The driveway was weathered from many rainstorms and had vegetation growth. It was a perfect example of a driveway that had perfect material hidden below the vegetation that was reconditioned to bring the driveway back to an almost original state without bringing in costly material.

The customer said he had spent the last several years fighting with potholes and they just kept coming back. They said they filled them with stone and gravel many times with no luck. We use an attachment that grinds the road and cuts the surface below the pothole to get rid of them. These photos show the before and after, before gravel was brought in to topcoat the roadway.

Customer complained that in the spring they were unable to park their vehicle at their upper entrance due to the mud. It was clear this area was not originally prepped to be used as a driveway/parking area. We removed the top layer of soil, placed fabric and covered with 3/4” gravel. This will help with the mud problem next spring.

This costumer wanted to be able to have access by vehicle to their shed, but due to the grade and wet muddy soil conditions, it would not allow it. They wanted it to remain grass, but drivable. We removed the topsoil and clay soil and replaced it with 6” minus crushed gravel. We reused the removed sod/topsoil to cover the gravel and shaped to the customers exact request.

The customer also wanted their driveway refurbished with 1/2” ledge-pack.

Another happy customer makes all these long hours worth it. This driveway acted as a river bed as all the water flowed down it and caused rutting. The driveway would also become muddy after rainfall. Excavated ditches for the water to runoff and brought in gravel to alleviate the mud. Put a parking area by the shed and cut out an area for a future wood shed. Backed the gravel with loam.
