The nature of this job requires facing failure on a nearly daily basis. Sometimes that failure offers a lesson in doing something better or differently.

Often, though, the only lesson many of these failures offer is how to get back up and go at it again the next day. There’s not always something to fix or do better, some days it just comes with the territory.

Christ promises that we will have trouble in this life. Failure is coming, if not, already here. That’s not really the part that matters. What better defines us is what we do with it. What comes next bears greater significance than what happened to us.

Did I learn? Did I grow? Did I try again? Did I fight?

I can’t control the outcome but I absolutely can control my efforts, my energy, my attitude, and my tenacity to get back in the ring. The truth is, if I lose ten times but keep getting back up, I only have to win once. Chances are, I don’t have to be the best in life, I just have to be the last to quit.

Throwback to when the two most attractive roofers in the industry teamed up to hunt hail damage 2 years ago.

Those shingles made me look much thicker than I really was. They add like 20 pounds or something…

“Nail Pops” are when the nails used to fasten the shingles to the roof work their way back up and cause the following problems:

1. They begin to unseal the shingle.
2. They can push holes through the shingle.
3. They create pathways for water to get into the attic.

But why does it happen?

The house moves! Did you know? As temperature and moisture fluctuates, so does the house. As the house moves, the nails can work their way back up out of the wood. A proper installation will reduce this but, eventually, nail pops are going to happen.

This is one of many reasons why roof maintenance is so important! I removed 5 nails and resealed 3 shingles today that had been affected by nail pops all on one roof. All of which could’ve turned into a leak!
