People often see us posting about Multipoint locks, or Peachtree doors, and ask what they are and why they are special.
A multipoint lock is a locking mechanism commonly used on doors, especially exterior doors, that provides enhanced security. Unlike traditional locks that secure the door at a single point, multipoint locks secure the door at multiple points along its height. These locking points typically engage with the turn of a key or the lift of a handle, activating bolts or hooks that lock into the door frame at the top, middle, and bottom of the door.
Multipoint locks are often used in UPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride) doors, composite doors, and sometimes in wooden doors. They are valued for their ability to improve security, increase weather resistance by creating a tighter seal against the door frame, and provide better overall stability to the door, preventing warping and ensuring a consistent fit over time.
The specific design and number of locking points can vary, with some locks featuring additional elements such as deadbolts, hooks, and cam rollers to enhance security further. Multipoint locking systems are widely recommended by security professionals and insurance companies due to the high level of protection they offer against forced entry.
