Throwback Thursday! Showcasing this very special kitchen from a very fun 2022 Arlington Heights project
Lavezzi Quartzite in an “extra suede” finish was used throughout the kitchen, from the oversized island and perimeter countertops to the tucked-away bar area.
We love how soft this stone feels in the space. The subtle movement works so beautifully with the warm cabinetry & dark wood, and the brass details elevate it all even further!

Simply luxurious. Beautiful, warm, and very, very pretty. Pure artisanal-level craftsmanship from everyone involved.

This custom bar uses two takes on a classic edge. The lower countertops feature a single ogee , while the raised bar top uses a stacked double ogee, giving it a thicker, more substantial look and helping define it as the centerpiece of the space.

It’s a beautiful example of how the same edge profile can be adapted throughout a space to enhance the stone or even create a completely different effect!

Full-height natural marble surrounds the tub and window as a feature wall, then carries straight into the shower, complete with a custom bench, niche tapered lean-back ledge, fine detailing, and carefully planned veining throughout.

This one called for some serious fabrication, and the finished space speaks for itself.

Cipollino Ondulato Satin Marble has movement that almost looks hand painted. Every slab is different. That's the beauty of Mother Nature! ❤️

Most people never notice a great seam.

And honestly, that's kind of the point!

So, where does a seam go?

At DTK, that decision is never random. Nor is it a decision made without very careful consideration from our team. We spend time figuring out the least noticeable placement, along with how the movement of the stone will flow across the project, and how everything will look once it's installed.

It's all part of The DTK Standard.

When a seam is thoughtfully placed, it blends into the movement of the stone instead of competing with it. The same goes for waterfall edges, shower walls, fireplaces, bookmatched slabs, and every other detail you see here.

I know we say it a lot, but the little details really do matter. They're the difference between a seam that catches your eye (in a bad way) and one you have to search for 😉

🪵 Wood? Gas? Electric?

Personally, we’re just here for the stone 🤷

A fireplace may be built around the flame, but at DTK, we design around what that flame demands from its stone surround.

When choosing a fireplace surround, the most important factor isn't the color or the veining.

It's heat resistance.

That's why we typically recommend natural stone or porcelain for fireplace surrounds. These materials are built to withstand high temperatures while maintaining their beauty for years and years. Because a fireplace should look just as stunning ten years from now as it does the day it's installed. That’s the DTK way 🗣️

(With electric fireplaces, quartz can also be a great option since it isn't exposed to the same levels of heat. Electric fireplaces simply do not generate the same levels of heat as wood or gas. But even then, we exercise caution.)

With fireplaces, we employ the same philosophy we use when recommending stone for all areas of a home: we help you choose what's built for the environment it's going to live in.
