Good advice
If you were inspired to plant a tree for Arbor Day this week, don't mound on the mulch! When mulch is piled high around the base of a tree and rests around its trunk, it's called volcano mulching. Volcano mulching can cause improper root growth and water absorption. If you feel the need to mulch, be sure to use it sparingly (only a few inches are necessary) and allow the flare at the base of the trunk to be visible. Before adding new mulch, rake away any old mulch and throw it in your compost or flower beds.
