Did you know that humans share approximately 99.9% of our DNA? For all the things that make us unique, we have far more in common than we sometimes realize.
This Construction Inclusion Week, we focused on one experience we ALL share: solving problems.
We challenged every ACW crew to get a hula hoop around a circle of teammates without letting go of each other's hands. Each crew had two attempts, and the results spoke for themselves: on the second try, times were nearly cut in half!
What changed? People started anticipating each other's needs. They adjusted for different heights, hard hats, and individual challenges. They communicated, adapted, and helped the next person succeed.
And that's what inclusion looks like in action. Not expecting everyone to navigate the same challenge in the same way, but recognizing what each person needs to succeed — and working together to make it happen.
We loved having members of other trades and our GC partners join in, too. Because building an inclusive industry takes all of us.
Of course, we wrapped up with our annual oatmeal crème pies and a reminder: Opportunity isn't like pie. When we make room for more people, perspectives, and ideas, we don't have to divide the same pie into smaller pieces. We make the pie bigger, creating more opportunity for everyone.
Different doesn't divide us. When we embrace it, it makes us stronger.
