This girl gave me a run for my money.
On 5/9/26, Reba—a 10‑month‑old puppy—escaped from her newly adopted family at the PetSmart in Westminster, MD. They were loading her new supplies into the car when she jumped out of the window. She had only been with them for about an hour, so she didn’t know them well and immediately bolted.
After days passed with no sightings, the family turned to Facebook for help. That’s when Rachel Moxley stepped in. She reached out to me, and—like she always does—roped me into another one.
Our first lead was a reported sighting about half a mile from PetSmart. I flew the drone for two hours with no luck and called it a night.
The next morning, a new sighting came in from Finksburg, MD, roughly seven miles away. The homeowner had caught Reba on their Ring camera, so we knew it was her. I searched the area again with the drone—still nothing. At this point, it was clear we had a runner, and we were in it for the long haul.
The following day, another sighting came in—this time in North Finksburg, about three miles from the previous location. Before I could even get there, another call came in from between Finksburg and Hampstead. This girl was moving. There was no chance of catching up to her.
Two days later, we got a call from Hampstead—another Ring camera confirmation, another three‑mile jump. The homeowner said Reba had been hanging around since the day before, so I deployed a trap at the house and started flying search grids.
Then the unthinkable happened.
Someone decided it was a good idea to shoot at my drone while I was flying the search pattern. We heard four or five shots as the drone passed overhead. I knew instantly that any chance of spotting Reba in that moment was gone. I landed the drone and left the area, but kept the trap deployed just in case.
My instincts were right. The next day, she was spotted back in North Finksburg… then again in Finksburg. We simply couldn’t keep up with her.
As the days went on, we tracked every sighting and slowly built a pattern. Once her movements stabilized, I began daily trips to the area. Finally, we caught a break—she had settled into one section of North Finksburg. I flew the drone and spotted her. This was the place to set a trap.
But as the video shows, she was too smart for it. She wanted no part of that trap.
So the next step was figuring out where she was sleeping. Once we identified her bedding area, I moved the trap there—but she never returned to it. I set up a feeding station at another spot she frequented, and over the next several days, I started seeing her in person.
That’s when the trust‑building began.
I fed her from my truck window, slowly earning her confidence. She had found a safe place—likely helped by the fact that a friend nearby had dogs she started bonding with. As she grew more comfortable with them and with us, the moment finally came: she allowed us to slip a collar on her and then a leash.
She fought it, but we were ready. We guided her into a crate, and just like that, 22 days after it all began, on 6/1/26, it was over.
I called her new family and told them the words they’d been waiting for: “We got her. She’s safe.”
They met me, we transferred her from my crate to theirs, and off she went—to the vet, and then finally home.

Some know but other don't I was attacked by a dog during this rescue and suffered some injuries. Requiring stiches and as well as some other medical attention. But that never stopped us on our mission to get Reba home.
We certainly could not ask a new adopter family to bear all the expense's that went into getting this pup home safe. They did cover a good amount of them.
We are not a 501c. I don't usually ask for donations or help. I just cover these expenses my self or through our my rainy day fund but this one went the extra mile and we have cleared out that fund.
If you would like to help us replenish that fund I will leave my links below so we can help the next animal in need doing no matter what it takes.
Thanks everyone who follows us and supports us.
