Soft landing installed for this Bur Oak tree!

Bur Oaks host over 450 species of moths and butterflies! When the caterpillars are ready to pupate, they will have a cozy place to land, with softened soil and luscious plants.

Sedges and flowers that can handle a wide range of sun to shade will do well here as the tree slowly grows.

Bur Oaks can live for hundreds of years! Cheers to that! 🙌🏼

Walking path and winter garden ✔️

In northern Ohio, winter interest is an important garden factor! Come December, this patch will be a swath of red, bronze, gold, and black. Delightful! ❄️

📢 Sound on to walk through the woods with a Wood Thrush.

What motivates me is healing our corner of the world; making space for fireflies, catbirds, and toads. I remove invasive species like the Periwinkle, Vinca minor, in this video so that the Wood Thrush can continue to sing and the Jack-in-the-pulpit doesn’t get choked out. Invasive plant removal available year-round!

⭐️ Update with summer pics! The yarrow and purple prairie clover shone in June. Rudbeckia and Purple love grass are the stars now, with Old Field Goldenrod ready to take over soon.

Peep a little native bee visiting the Rudbeckia. They’re small things, these pots, but small things add up! 🐝

From May: “New containers just dropped at the Elyria Arts Council full of drought-tolerant native perennials. I love how these will bring the mural into 3-D! 🌻 🦋

If you’re nearby, check out their summer classes! 🎨”

Summer sights from my gardens at home! It doesn’t take long to make a difference for wildlife in your yard.

Plant native and delight in what you find! It brings me so much joy!

Before pic. Some pics right after planting. And some added a month later with rudbeckia, coreopsis, and purple prairie clover in bloom!

💐 New foundation planting will be radiant in spring and colorful all year. A smaller space calls for long-bloomers and things that look cool after bloom. Removed the invasive barberry bushes and packed in perennials.

My dad told me to include pictures of the plants, so here those are too. Thanks, dad! 😂

This is so important. Lawn adds nothing to the food web. A lush, exotic ornamental garden isn’t much better.

A yard full of native trees, shrubs, and perennials is a banquet for wildlife. Remove some of those exotic space fillers. Definitely remove species that are invasive in your area. Replace with native species. Our yards need to be doing more. Need advice or a plan, contact me! 🐝🌱🐤

From nothing to something!! 🐝

Full sun pollinator garden installed and growing at my home! Already scheming how I can make it bigger. Over 300sq ft is a great start!

Monarda, rudbeckia, verbena stricta, blue eyed grass, and swamp milkweed with rattlesnake master popping up throughout. Gray goldenrod and silky aster will support our pollinators later in the season. Iris versicolor sits where the sump pump and downspout spit out water. Clumping grasses like little bluestem, sideoats grama, and Carex brevior give yearround movement and suppress weeds among the other plants. Grasses also provide bare soil areas for ground nesting bees to excavate. 🙌🏼 It’s not a pollinator garden without nesting areas!

🪧 The Pollinator Garden sign from lets neighbors know what’s happening.

Now I just need patience to let it grow! 😩
