❗️CHUNKY SOIL MIX❗️
I’ve recently started repotting all my personal plants with a chunky soil mix. I noticed that my plants were retaining too much moisture when potted in just regular miracle grow. This has been leading to issues like root rot and fungus gnat infestations.
With a chunkier mix, my roots have more room for air to circulate and dry out between watering!
I found that it’s cheapest if I make my own, so I use orchid bark, perlite, and regular organic soil. Some people also use worm casting or charcoal, I just didn’t see any at my local gardening store and what I have works just fine.
If you want your plants repotted with a chunky soil mix- shoot me a message!

Have you ever tried growing your orchids in water? This soilless method involves keeping your plant in a clear container (typically glass) with an inch or 2 of distilled water at the bottom. This mimics the orchids natural environment and lets the roots breathe like they would in the wild. I like to let my orchids roots dry out for a couple days every week or so to prevent root rot, but I think it works great!
This orchid didn’t give me flowers for years until I switched it to water culture. Now look at the pretty blooms!

Got this prayer plant for sale ($5) since she is in need of some major TLC. Hopefully with fresh soil and more frequent watering, she’ll start to look a lot better! Wish me luck!

This is a type of variegated tradescantia plant that was living on a high shelf, receiving very low light. You can see in the first photo how sad she is, trying to grow down and reaching for the sun.
I trimmed back the sad, weak vines and leaves and put her in a window where she received more direct light. I also had a grow lamp over her for extra support. She was treated for fungus gnats with mosquito bits and diatomaceous earth. I kept her watering schedule the same and I’ll repot her when she’s more stable.
The second photo is about a month later. Look at all that new growth! She’ll be looking like a whole new plant in no time.
This is a reminder that I do offer “treatment” services. If you have a plant that is struggling, I will take it, try to resuscitated it, and return it back to you when it is healthy again. The cost for this service depends on the time/treatment involved. If it’s too far gone and dies under my care anyway, there is no cost to you. Message me!

This pothos has been thriving in my office for the past few months. It originated from a few cuttings from a mother plant gifted to me by a coworker. Since I recieved it, she has nearly tripled in size!
However, over the past few weeks, some of the leaves started turning yellow. Clearly something was stressing this plant out. With no recent changes to light or watering schedule, a bigger pot seemed like the best solution. It had only been a few months since her last repot, but she was growing quick.

Upon removing the plant from its pot, it was obvious it needed an upgrade. There was barely any soil left!
I feel pretty guilty for not repotting her sooner, but she had been doing so well (until recently) that I didn’t see any reason to change anything. She was even still popping out new leaves!
Here’s your reminder to listen to your plants! Hopefully now she will be much happier and continue to give me more new growth, without the yellowing leaves;)

Root-bound alert! Although seemingly doing really well and thriving above the soil, this snake plant was bursting out of its pot and the roots clearly needed more room. My client wanted it broken up into multiple pots and now he has two more whole plants to take home! Glad I could give this plant a little extra room to grow and be happy🌱💚

This is a peace lily I rescued from a friend’s balcony after a nasty storm. She was pretty banged up- had been knocked over and laying in her side, neglected for weeks. She desperately needed saving so I took her in! I immediately repotted her and gave her a good drink. She lost some leaves in the process but look at her progress! She’ll be good as new in no time:)
*Planning to sell her once she’s healthy again! These plants are toxic to cats and I have 2. She’s being quarantined from them until then.
