Canada’s housing market is changing faster than many people realize.
Between 2011 and 2021, renter households grew by 21.5%, while owner households grew by just 8.4%.
Today, roughly 1 in 3 Canadian households rents their home, and Canada’s homeownership rate has fallen from 69.0% to 66.5%.
Why does this matter?
More renters means greater demand for rental housing. In fact, renters are more than twice as likely as homeowners to face housing affordability challenges, highlighting the continued need for quality rental spaces across Canada.
As housing needs evolve, homeowners are increasingly looking at the space they already own and asking a simple question:
Could this space be doing more?
