There is a list of things your parents will never tell you.

That the stairs feel longer. That they read the same page three times. That they've started buying the smaller jar, not because they need less, but because the big one won't open.

They won't say it. Saying it makes it real.

So it falls to us to look at the shopping list and read what isn't written there.

We make one small tool for one small moment on that list.

My mother didn't tell me. I found out from a jar of chilis.
She'd left it on the counter with a dish towel wrapped around the lid. I asked why. She said she was ""letting it warm up."" It had been there since Tuesday.
She's 74. Her hands shake now. She never mentioned it once, not in a single phone call, because she has spent fifty years being the one who takes care of things.
So I stopped asking. I just started noticing.
That's what most of our customers tell us: nobody said anything. Somebody noticed.
