Roll-A-Ramp Success Story!
When Eagle Scout Cam noticed a need at the Pearland Memorial VFW Post 7109, he decided to do something about it.
For his Eagle Scout service project, Cam reached out to Southeast Texas Mobility for help providing a ramp that would allow veterans, members, and guests who use wheelchairs to independently access the stage in the VFW's main hall.
VFW Post 7109 serves veterans and their families throughout Pearland and the surrounding communities and hosts a variety of events and gatherings. The stage, however, could only be reached by stairs, making it difficult — and sometimes impossible — for people who use wheelchairs to participate.
The need became especially obvious when a visitor who uses a wheelchair had to be physically lifted onto the stage.
Cam felt that wasn't right.
“No one should have to rely on others to participate in community events.”
With that in mind, Cam set out to raise the money needed for an ADA-compliant ramp and ramp cart. Roll-A-Ramp provided the ramp, and worked with Cam to help make his project a reality.
On installation day, Cam and a fellow Eagle Scout, along with their Scoutmaster and Andres, Southeast Texas Mobility's lead installer, worked together to install the ramp at the VFW.
The portable Roll-A-Ramp can be put in place when needed and stored away when it isn't, making it a practical solution for the VFW while providing something even more important — the ability for people who use wheelchairs to get onto the stage safely and independently.
What started as an Eagle Scout service project has become a lasting improvement for the VFW and the people it serves.
Southeast Texas Mobility was proud to be part of Cam's project and to work alongside Roll-A-Ramp to help a young member of the community turn an idea into something that will benefit veterans, their families, and the Pearland community for years to come.
Sometimes a small idea can make a big difference — and Cam's project is a great example of that.
