...Winter Storm On Track to Begin Later Today...

❗ This graphic shows the approximate time after which travel is strongly discouraged, along with expected snow accumulations. Basically, this is our thinking as to when the snow will really start sticking and travel conditions will deteriorate. The precipitation will begin a few hours before these times, but it will take a couple hours for the snow to stick easily. A band of heavy wet snow is very likely to set up in the Bangor/Greenville/Houlton region, with snowfall rates up to 1.5-2" per hour for a few hours. From about 6pm to midnight looks pretty bad. Areas north of Houlton will still have hazardous travel, but snow rates won't be quite as high. The coast will be a bit warmer with a rain/snow mix and little if any accumulation.

🙂 Temperatures will be above freezing areawide by late morning Friday, and travel conditions will be much better. Even waiting to travel until after 5am Friday is better than travelling this evening, as this evening will be the worst of it.

🟤 The ground is not frozen for most places, which will make this a messy storm to dig out from as it will be easy to dig up mud.

If anyone has tried to reach me through my personal Facebook account, messenger, or Instagram...I apologize. During the recent Facebook crash I was locked out of my account and cannot get back in. I can be reached by phone or text if anyone needs to. I may have to create a new account, but that's something I really don't want to do. However, if you receive a new friend request from me, that is why. If you don't want to accept it, I understand.

**Moderate to Heavy Snow Continues Through Late This Evening Across Most of the Area**

We received spotter and observer reports of snowfall rates of 1" per hour or greater across parts of our area as of 5PM. Moderate to heavy snow will continue overnight over and north of Bangor, along with patchy blowing and drifting snow. Along the coast, a transition to mixed precipitation is anticipated shortly which will cut down on snow totals but maintain slippery road conditions.

Snow will begin to taper off in intensity generally 2-4 hours prior to the end time shown on the graphic.

If you have a snow measurement, please let us know in the comments.
