Last night in New York City marked the launch of Women of Architecture, a book celebrating women whose vision has given form to beauty, shaped the built world, and expanded the possibilities of design.

October has a way of making celebrations feel especially timeless.

At Bohemia Manor Farm, sweeping lawns, mature trees, and views toward the Chesapeake Bay provide an unforgettable setting for gathering with family and friends. Originally built in 1920, the manor house was fully restored to its original Georgian splendor, creating a gracious backdrop for celebrations of all kinds, including the weddings that bring the property to life each fall.

Among the updates was the creation of the River Room, a distinctive space formed by enclosing the existing porch and carefully mirroring the pillars of the adjacent portico. With its expansive bay views, the room offers an elegant setting for gathering before, during, or after a celebration.

Thoughtful restoration allows the character of Bohemia Manor Farm to remain part of every new memory made there.

To build for the future is to create architecture that can endure, adapt, and remain meaningful for generations. This Arts & Crafts-inspired residence was designed for a family of six, with additional cottage accommodations suitable for grandparents, creating a home that can bring generations together.

Built within the confines of a demolished 19th-century country house, the residence was thoughtfully designed to minimize site disturbance and cultivate a sense of timelessness within the landscape. Natural materials and carefully crafted details were selected to weather gracefully, while the work of regional artisans and craftsmen brings lasting character to every space.

Build it to last. Build it with care, craft, and the generations to come in mind.

We are pleased to see Strand Millas featured in Brandywine Valley Home, highlighting the thoughtful renovation of this remarkable circa 1700 home near Montchanin, Delaware.

Archer & Buchanan was honored to lead renovations to the historic property, carefully balancing its centuries-old character with the needs of modern family life. The project introduced contemporary elements to the rear wing, including steel windows and doors and an east-facing porch that strengthens the connection between the home and pool area.

Within the original portion of the house, the second floor was transformed into a primary suite, while a former kennel wing of the stable was thoughtfully adapted into a rustic pub using salvaged materials from the project.

Throughout Strand Millas, historic materials, craftsmanship, and contemporary living come together to create a warm and inviting home designed to serve generations of family.

A home with nearly three centuries of stories is opening its doors for Chester County Day on Saturday, October

Dower House, widely considered the oldest continuously occupied home in West Chester, began as a modest stone farmhouse around 1760. Over the centuries, it evolved through thoughtful additions, including a 1924 renovation by renowned architect Brognard Okie that brought his signature vernacular detailing and historically appropriate craftsmanship to the home.

A century later, Archer & Buchanan was honored to help guide Dower House into its next chapter. Our work introduced spaces and systems suited to contemporary family life while preserving the character, materials, and details that make this historic home so remarkable.

Now, Dower House is being featured as one of the VIP houses for Chester County Day, offering guests a rare opportunity to experience a home that has continued to evolve while remaining deeply connected to its past.

We are proud to see Dower House welcomed into this year’s celebration of Chester County’s extraordinary architectural heritage.

Philadelphia’s equestrian heritage lives not only in its historic landscapes and traditions, but in the places that continue to bring those traditions to life.

On September 19, the Philadelphia Arena Polo Championship returns to the McCausland Arena at Chamounix Equestrian Center, benefiting Work to Ride. For more than three decades, Work to Ride has used horsemanship and equestrian sport to provide Philadelphia youth with opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, discipline, and a strong sense of community.

Archer & Buchanan is proud to have served as architect for the McCausland Arena, a space designed to support the continued growth of Philadelphia’s equestrian community. Seeing the arena filled with riders, spectators, and the next generation of equestrians is a meaningful reflection of how thoughtful stewardship can help carry a region’s heritage forward.

We look forward to celebrating this special connection between place, sport, and community at this year’s championship.
