This customer had an overarching theme for their backyard landscape renovation - low maintenance! They had a few different elements that had to be rectified. For starters, they had a bunch of old junk trees along their fence line that had to be replaced with a privacy row of evergreen trees. In the corner of their backyard adjacent to their garage, they had a large space that was virtually unusable because of the grade. It was almost impossible to grow grass because of the shade.
Incidentally, all the other areas around their new driveway were primarily w**ds, half dead grass or undesirable plants. They needed a solution. We asked them if they wanted to store stuff next to the garage. Once they said yes, we suggested turning the entire backyard into a rock bed. In order to use the space next to the garage, we had to build a retaining wall so we could then raise and level the grade.
Ultimately, after grading, w**d / plant removal, tree/ berm installation, and resetting the small boulders (and pavers) along the garage garden, we brought in over 14,000 lbs of 3/4" crushed granite. Incidentally, this had to be done manually with wheel barrows only! Because of their newly poured driveway, we did not want to risk any damage with heavy machinery. This satisfied their "low maintenance" criteria, yet also was very aesthetically pleasing. We were excited and grateful that they went with our suggestion.
Thanks a lot John & Maureen!
