Not the right season to be pruning oaks (oak wilt), but definitely necessary here. The 16” limb apparently split in the winter and recently got worse and was sitting on the roof of the house. I used pruning seal after the final cut to prevent the picnic beetle from being attracted to the scent of the freshly cut oak. This tree was 35” in diameter and tend to grow at .18” per year once they’re saw log size. So the tree is roughly 200-225 years old.
