After battling the rain last week, we finished up these two massive retaining walls today in Wellman!

Built with Fond du Lac–colored outcropping block, these monster blocks create a strong, natural look and make one beautiful wall.

Another big project completed by the Kalonial Lawn Care crew!

Built to last.

This retaining wall had begun to fail due to years of soil pressure and improper backfill. Instead of replacing the stone, we carefully dismantled the wall and rebuilt it using the existing natural Anamosa limestone, preserving its original character while giving it a new foundation.

The wall was reconstructed with a properly compacted base, clean drainage stone, perforated drain tile, and compacted backfill to ensure water is carried away from the wall instead of allowing pressure to build behind it.

The difference between a retaining wall that lasts and one that fails is what you can’t see. Proper drainage, a solid foundation, and quality installation are what keep a wall standing for decades.

We love bringing old walls back to life while building them the right way.

Now is the time to protect your lawn from grubs!

As you can see, grub eggs are beginning to hatch. Once they emerge, they start feeding on the roots of your lawn, causing brown patches, thinning turf, and damage that can be expensive to repair.

Applying a preventative grub treatment now is the best way to stop damage before it starts and keep your lawn healthy through late summer and fall.

📞 Give Kalonial Lawn Care a call today to schedule your grub control treatment before it’s too late!

We’re seeing a significant increase in Japanese beetle damage this year, especially on linden and birch trees.

If your tree is starting to show browning leaves beginning at the top of the canopy, don’t wait—it can quickly become much more severe.

Now is the time to act. We offer several effective treatment options to protect your trees and stop further damage.

📞 Give Kalonial Lawn Care a call today to schedule an inspection and treatment before the damage gets worse.

Phase 2 is complete at the new Mid-Prairie Activities Building. Our team installed new plantings, defined the landscape beds with clean edging, and added slate landscaping rock to create a durable, low-maintenance finish. The project is now polished and ready to welcome the community for football season. Thank you to Mid-Prairie CSD for trusting Kalonial Lawn Care with this project.

Seeing crabgrass pop up everywhere this summer? You’re not alone.

With the extreme heat we’ve been having, crabgrass is thriving. As a warm-season annual grass, it loves temperatures above 90°F and quickly takes advantage of stressed lawns.

Crabgrass is especially common in:
• Thin or bare areas of turf
• Full sun locations
• South-facing slopes
• Along driveways and sidewalks where concrete radiates heat
• Lawns that are drought-stressed

While your desirable cool-season grasses slow down during the heat of summer, crabgrass keeps growing aggressively and can quickly take over open areas.

The best defense is a healthy, thick lawn and applying a pre-emergent in the spring before crabgrass germinates. If you missed that window, don’t worry—there are still treatment options available to help reduce existing crabgrass and improve your lawn moving forward.

If crabgrass is taking over your yard, give Kalonial Lawn Care a call. We’d be happy to evaluate your lawn and recommend the best plan to get it back on track.
