⚠️ WHEELER COUNTY — MAKE YOUR PREPARATIONS NOW! ⚠️
The National Weather Service is highlighting the potential for damaging straight-line winds this afternoon and tonight, with wind gusts possibly reaching up to 85 MPH across portions of the Texas Panhandle.
🌬️ Straight-line winds can be extremely dangerous. They can produce widespread damage similar to what you might see from a tornado — including downed trees, power lines, damaged roofs and structures, and dangerous debris. You do NOT need a tornado for significant wind damage to occur.
👉 Please don’t wait for a warning to start preparing. DO IT NOW.
Take a few minutes to:
• Secure or bring inside outdoor furniture, decorations, trash cans, and other loose items.
• Park vehicles in a garage or protected location if possible.
• Charge phones and portable power banks.
• Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
• Know where you will shelter if a warning is issued.
• Check on family, friends, neighbors, and those who may need additional assistance.
• Be prepared for possible power outages.
🚨 Remember: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning means take action. Dangerous winds can happen quickly and can make travel extremely hazardous.
Make your preparations NOW while conditions are calm. Don't wait until the wind is already blowing.
Stay informed. Stay prepared. STAY WEATHER AWARE. 🌩️
