A Great alternative for Burning bush - Cornus (Dogwood) Genus!

Dogwoods come in a range of foliage colors, sizes and winter interests. There are shrubs that would do well as an accent shrubs next to your home (averaging 4-5' Tall & Wide) and others that would do excellently as a hedge row / windbreak. Dogwoods are also excellent for gully repair, so if you have erosion issues, they have strong roots to hold soil in place. They're a SUPER STAR SHRUB and we Love them over here!

PLUS they are great for birds and pollinators. How can you beat that?

A Great alternative for Burning bush - Aronia Genus!

If you have the space for a larger shrub in your yard - these are great for birds, fall color and winter interest (with berries holding on branches). Black Chokecherries are native to eastern North America! Low Scape Mound Chokecherry is an excellent small addition to the urban landscaping beds and is compact.

This one was a little hard for us to swallow. Burning bushes (specifically Euonymus alatas) have been some of everyone's favorite shrub's for fall color for decades. They are becoming increasingly difficult to find due to wholesale nurseries not being able to sell them. Going forward - It probably would be a good plan to consider replacing them with an alternative.

There are LOTS of great options for awesome fall color. Stay tuned, this week we'll roll out some GREAT alternatives to burning bush that will do well in our North Central Iowa climate.

HOT & HUMID = FUNGAL PARTY 👎👎
The amount of moisture we have had in the last couple weeks, coupled with warm weather and corn sweat has kept things VERY HUMID and with that comes a host of fungal diseases that thrive in these conditions.

One of these is Dollar Spot in your turfgrass. If you have seen round, circular patches of brown in your turfgrass (ranging from a half-dollar up to 6" in diameter), it could be Dollar spot. EARLY identification and treatment are KEY to getting this under control.
