When constructing a set of working pens, there’s a lot of behind the scenes that goes on before pipe is set in the ground.

The main thing is your dirt work.

And no, not just a couple of scoops here and there.
Coming up with a plan for proper height, water shed and compaction make for solid foundation for the overall scheme of things. It all ties in how the traps are set up, where the alleys go, where the gates are hung and where the chute cover is placed to shed water. Along with the concrete slab pitched so all the water sheds into the drain.

So when we are trusted to build a set of pens, we follow the same steps even tho every build is different.

28x28 Gabled loafing shed.

One of the stoutest sheds we’ve built.
Used 5x5 collums with 2x6 1/4” wall rec tubing for the A frames. Sheet metal kick walls with the ranches trademark color scheme and paint.

Do we make mistakes? Yep!
Did we really need motorized screens? Nope!
Did we find a solution to the problem? Of course!

When building, communication is key and even then sometimes info is lost and or in this case, misinterpreted! Plans called for a 1/2 wall from the ground up, me personally, misunderstood and got it backwards. Instead of pointing fingers, we immediately went to solving the issue.

What better way to solve it with motorized screens from Paradise Screens!

They allow minimal wind and rain while still having a view!

We appreciate the job they did for us and the Cactus Jack Ranch!

1/4 round 4’ skirting and 4’ light stone sheet walls and Burnished Slate trim. Custom downspout to match emptying into drain pipe to help with erosion!

Tip of the Day:

A simple eye brow on a loafing shed or barn goes a long way in the summer heat or pouring down rain!

Not only do they look good with one on but your animals get extra coverage!

They are a must on all of our builds.

Bringing in our very own calf crop to the Cactus Jack Ranch feed yard. Excited to see this facility in action as we can learn what works and what can be more efficient.

My dad taught me this YEARS ago and it’s about as efficient as it gets when it comes to throwing up some suckerrod.

Consistency is key! Welders dream having to root it with 6011 and cap it off with 7018.
