Chisel Architecture's work is featured in Lake and Company Sept 2025 issue themed Where We Belong.

The feature: Live Well. Live Lakeside. shares the homeowner's story of their forever home, affectionately named: Cherry Mash Modern, which also happens to be on the AIA Minnesota Homes by Archotects Tour (IG: ) Sept 27-28, 2025.

An excerpt: "To live well is to live lakeside. Homeowners Brian and Kristin, over decades as a married couple, embodied this philosophy as they envisioned designing and living in their forever home. When they began their search in earnest for a lakeshore property, they scouted Minnesota lakes and lots in the Twin Cities area of all shapes, sizes, and scenarios."

This year’s is coming up Sept 27-28 and Chisel co-founder along with Chisel’s marketing director —who met and worked on the creation of the tour starting as early as 2005 — had the opportunity to revisit it courtesy of on .

Mark is always a joy to talk with — it’s a fun conversation! We loved that he brought his expertise as a builder and knowledge of tour origins in the Twin Cities area, while Sara and Jen lent some context around the tour’s beginnings within the Minnesota residential architect community.

It was a full circle moment for Chisel Architecture as this is the first year since founding seven years ago that the Chisel co-founders and Sara have a home on the tour. As Sara says, “The stars have to align for any home to be on tour. Because in this tour, the homeowners live in their homes, so it can be a big ask to not only be open during the tour weekend, but participate in all the things that go on around that.”

We also touch on Chisel’s home #8 on the tour this year: Cherry Mash Modern.

🍒 "In one early design meeting, the homeowners Brian and Kristin described how they create a signature cocktail for their gatherings. They detailed how cherries were picked, mashed, and muddled on a recent evening of entertaining. Their attention to detail spilled over to a conversation about how the friends they’ve made throughout their lives seem to find their way back into their home, despite a series of moves prior to creating their forever home. And now, how living in their new home for nearly a year, new neighbors are gravitating over." 🍒

Check out the completely reconfigured entryway -- now an enlightened way to enter this home, as noted in Midwest Design's 2024 awards as: Best Benchmark to Entry; the dining room overlooking the outdoor space; the kitchen window and its opening to the four-season patio; and the lower level zen workout space. ⁠

Springtime is a time for reconnecting your home's indoor and outdoor spaces!⁠

In this project we call Best of Times in Edina, MN, Chisel Architecture partnered with and builder to make this connection between kitchen and enclosed four-season patio with views of the dining room, celebrated, lovely, and functional (latte's made to order, served up through the kitchen window!). ⁠

We couldn't resist adding a photo of the completely reconfigured entryway too, it's now an enlightened way to enter this home (noted in 's 2024 awards as "Best Benchmark to Entry")⁠

Tucked away in Naples, Florida, this condo renovation project we call Naples Oasis recaptures the lively spirit of its 1960s origins, offering a sentimental tribute to that period.

The owners of this coastal sanctuary cherish their favorite pastimes: watching sea turtles, taking dips in the ocean, enjoying books, and strolling along the shoreline. The neighborhood bears the nickname "Little Minnesota" – during winter months, it becomes filled with northern visitors seeking escape from frigid temperatures as they embrace the coastal winds and oceanic tranquility.
