Your landscape, your language. 🦋

No two spaces should look the same because no two lives look the same. That's the beauty of landscape design: it can be as grand as a hand-carved fountain tucked into a manicured garden wall, or as laid-back as a gravel patio and a swing under string lights. It can climb -trained vines tracing a pattern up a brick façade- or wind through the woods as a natural stone stream, built to sound like it's always been there.

And sometimes, the most meaningful detail is the smallest one: a pollinator garden planted with intention, giving butterflies and bees a place to land.

Grand or subtle, formal or wild, sharp or soft; every feature is a choice. And when those choices are made with intention, the result isn't just landscaping. It's a space that's unmistakably yours!

Love it now? Just wait. 🌱

Fresh sod, brand new beds, plants still in their pots — this is day one, not the finished product. And we get it, it can be hard to picture the "after" when everything looks a little sparse. But there are a few things happening in these photos that are all part of the process:

🌿The sod isn't seamless yet. Freshly laid sod has visible seams and can look a little patchy at first. Give it consistent water for a month or two, and those seams knit together into one solid lawn. You won't even remember where they were!

🌿 Small plants are the plan, not a shortcut. Sometimes the largest size we can source for a shrub is a 3-gallon, but that's okay! What matters most is that the plant be able to establish strong roots and take off. Give it a season or two and it'll fill in beautifully.

🌿 Every landscape needs time to settle in. New trees, new beds, new turf — they all need a little patience before they hit their stride.

This isn't the finished story. It's just the first chapter. Follow along to watch this space grow, fill in, and mature into exactly what we designed it to be!

Because a landscape isn't something we finish and walk away from. It's something that is always growing and keeps getting better with time. That's what makes the impact last!

This backyard was sitting empty, just dirt and debris and a lot of untapped potential. We turned it into a true outdoor room: a flowing stone patio that carries you from a fire-side lounge area to a shaded dining table, all under the existing tree canopy that makes this yard feel cohesive and established.

Fresh plantings soften the edges, low-maintenance turf keeps it green in every season, and the layout gives this family a space that actually gets used - for morning coffee, weekend dinners, or just sitting outside a little longer than planned.

Good design isn't about adding more. It's about making the space work for how you actually live.

These annuals began as tiny plants back in spring — and now, in July, they've filled in beautifully, lush and overflowing exactly the way we hoped they would. Paired with the structure of the boxwood hedges, the brick pathway, and those gorgeous magnolia standards, the containers pull the whole entry way together — soft, colorful, and full of life against all of the classic evergreen structure and hardscape detail.

This is what we love about a well-planned planting: the brick and evergreens do the heavy lifting year-round, and the seasonal color adds in all the fun!

Part of our mission at R&R Landscaping is creating lasting impact, and serving alongside the volunteers at Renewal & Remembrance is one of the most meaningful ways we get to live that out.

Claire has the privilege of working with the children's program each year, and this group was especially engaged, curious, and eager to jump in. There is something pretty special about planting flowers with the next generation while helping care for our nation's most sacred ground at Arlington National Cemetery.

She wrapped up the trip with a productive and energetic NALP Board meeting. Honestly, when do you ever get to say that? It reminded us that our best work happens when we make room for different perspectives and listen to understand each other.

As our good friend Pam Dooley finishes her term as Chair of the Board, one thing she shared during the opening dinner deserves reiteration:

"It's not about avoiding tough conversations. It's about caring enough to have them."

That's a lesson worth carrying home.

A few years ago, this weeping willow was just a sapling. Today, its a statement.

That's the thing about landscaping — the best results don't happen overnight. They come from planting with intention, tending with care, and sticking around long enough to watch it grow.
