The Owl House Foster Spot A small neighbors-helping-neighbors spay/neuter TNR program on the border of NY and PA.

Due to changes in NYS regulations, at this time we are unable to accept new cats for adoption, and the cats we feature are usually fostered for other organizations. We are friends who help landowners on the NY/PA state line spay/neuter outdoor cats, and sometimes sponsor medical costs and foster cats and kittens for landowners, veterinarians and others who do not have the space to do so themselves.

I had reason to be digging through my blog and came across a picture of Vannie, one of the original neutered Fast Food Ferals on Rt 13 Ithaca. People like to talk about how cats decimate birds. Let's talk about what really destroys bird population. The first image is Vannie where she lived with about 15 other cats, until they slowly passed away over time. (Click to expand the photo and get their full effect). Every time I fed them, I encountered deer, waterfowl, and songbirds. It was behind Wicks Lumber (with their blessing and they even provided wood for shelters and this kitty bridge). The second image is what that area looks like today.

Yup. Tell me about how cats decimate birds.

(What do you bet they call it the "ditch" now instead of the "stream," which is what it is).

Peeing or pooping problems? Think outside of the 'box.'

Say hello to Dolittle (orange) and Moxie, two specially-abled kittens from the Spay Neuter Save Network who needed a temporary soft place to land. Moxie is awaiting a front leg amputation at the end of the month and Dolittle is strengthening his rear legs after arriving as a rear-paralyzed kitten. He's walking quite well now (thanks to his first foster home) and will be available for adoption via SNSN once he's neutered. He'll need a special home who understands his limitations (He doesn't think he has any). They were in another foster home up until about two weeks ago but could no longer stay there. Moxie already has a home once he recovers from his future amputation. Clearly they love being private roommates here!

I discovered the inspection forms are public after a shelter has been inspected, so I copied this one (with just the inspection items listed and not the organization or outcomes). So this is what a rescue can expect to be inspected on. The first year's inspection is "eductional" for organizations who are already registered rescues. I'm not sure whether they are for new registrants or whether facilities as well as paperwork are inspected for first-timers. This list doesn't mean every rescue is required to have every thing listed here. I see "NA" listed on some inspections. It is nice that they have the section of the law listed for each inspection point.

Jaime, thank you for donating to help keep the Owl House cats toasty warm this winter, and for giving Daphne the best home ever! I'm hoping to have an open house once everything is installed (an early Whiskers in Winter party?) and maybe you, Christy and Gordon came make it over just like in the old pre-COVID "Coffee and Kittens" days. If not, I'll keep trying to mentally send good vibes up your way! Thank you! 💕

KC is probably the only person who came to one of our past open house parties here at the Owl House and ended up adopting a cat from SOMEONE ELSE during the festivities! 🤣. Luckily if was from a past adopter who was fostering kittens for another group (because cat rescue is contagious - watch out!). Before and after, you've been a savior for all the of cats here, and a great friend, too. Thank you so incredibly much, for donating to our Winter Warmth fundraiser. Can you believe I don't have any pictures of your cats? However I DO have a pic of one of your gorgeous quilts!

Nancy, who knew when you answered that ad for help fostering kittens (an Ithaca Times NEWSPAPER ad, wasn't it?) that it would turn into a multi-decade friendship. Thank you for your help with the Winter Warmth fundraiser (and SO much more to help with the summer cooling bill), for all the animals you've fostered for so many organizations, and for giving Gizmo a lifetime of love (I had to go all the way to the Wildrun blog in 2010 for this pic!). Cheers to you and the Girls!!!

Georg, thank you for being the very FIRST donor to our Winter Warmth fundraiser, and for giving years and years of love to Ziggy, and to Tiger Tom (rest in peace, old bud) AND for going the whole-hog Cornell route for Ziggy to resolve hyperthyroidism! 💕I know I've promised breakfast or lunch for eons, but I promise, it'll happen. It's time my life became a little more than cats. 🙂 Miss you, and I hope Zig is doing well.

Hayya, thank you so much for donating to the Winter Warmth fundraiser and for giving these two a fantastic home and probably the biggest catio ever (ANOTHER adopter who specifically added a catio for their cats after adoption). You're an amazing cat-mom and a wonderful friend. 💕

I'm behind on thanks! Thank you to Jessica for the generous balance on a gas card and the beautiful card (I am a card fanatic -- how did you know?) -- this has been a life saver!
