Before the vibrant reds and oranges of mid-October arrive, celebrate the subtle beauty of late August with a natural, textured transition wreath. Late summer in Wisconsin offers an abundance of incredible natural elements that dry beautifully right on your door!
🌾 What to Gather Right Now:
-Grapevine & Flexible Branches: Wild grapevine, willow, or dogwood branches (green and pliable).
-Ornamental Grasses & Reeds: Feather reed grass, fountain grass, or roadside wheat/cattails.
-Hydrangeas: Panicle or Annabelle hydrangeas (harvest when they feel slightly papery to the touch!).
-Seed Pods & Accents: Green/early-brown acorns, pinecones, or lotus pods.

✂️ DIY Instructions:
-Build Your Base Layer: Take your green, pliable grapevine or dogwood branches and weave them loosely in a circle, securing the ends into the frame. (This forms your rustic base!)
-Anchor the Hydrangeas: Cluster 3–4 hydrangea blooms together on one side (typically the lower-left or bottom center) for a strong focal point. Secure their stems into the grapevine structure using floral wire.
-Tuck in the Grasses: Slide tall stems of feather reed or fountain grass behind the hydrangeas, letting them fan out naturally along the curve of the wreath.
-Add Texture & Detail: Hot-glue or wire small clusters of acorns, pinecones, and seed pods around the base of the hydrangeas to cover any exposed wire or stems.
-Finish with a Bow: Tie a simple burlap or neutral linen bow at the top or side to complete the look.

💡 OLC Pro Tip: The Craft Store Shortcut
While weaving wild grapevine and fresh willow branches creates a completely unique, rustic look, you don't have to forage your own base!
If wild vines aren't accessible or you want to save time, grab a pre-assembled 18"–24" grapevine wreath base from your local craft store or garden center. You can jump straight to step 2 by securing your harvested hydrangeas, grasses, and seed pods directly into the store-bought frame!
