Cabinets. Countertops. Flooring. Backsplash. Hardware. Paint. Lighting.

Looking at everything separately can get overwhelming fast.

One trick? Start with the finish that has the FEWEST options.

For example, if you fall in love with a particular countertop, build the rest of the room around it. Paint comes in thousands of colors — your countertop doesn't.

Before choosing flooring because it looks great in the showroom, ask yourself a few questions:

🐕 Do we have pets?
👟 How much traffic does this room get?
💧 Will it regularly see water or snow?
🧹 How much maintenance are we willing to do?
☀️ Does the room receive a lot of direct sunlight?
🏡 How long do we expect this floor to last?

Especially here in Wisconsin, flooring near entrances has to deal with snow, water, salt and mud.

Appearance matters — but performance matters too.

✔️ Nonporous
✔️ Low maintenance
✔️ Huge variety of designs

GRANITE:
✔️ Natural stone
✔️ Every slab is unique
✔️ Excellent durability
✔️ Natural variation and character

One isn't automatically better than the other.

Think about maintenance, appearance, budget and how you use your kitchen before deciding.

And always look at a FULL SLAB when possible — a tiny sample doesn't always tell the whole story.

Choose the harder materials first.
