EXPECTATIONS:
- Building code knowledge– strong familiarity with building codes and current laws and regulations affecting plumbers is crucial for those seeking to excel in this field
- Coordination– journeyman plumbers must have the dexterity and eye-hand coordination to handle and install small washers, nuts, O-rings, and gaskets
- Blueprint reading–journeyman plumbers must be able to read drawings, schematics, and blueprints to ensure proper installation of new lines and pipes
-Troubleshooting– understanding how to check for leaks and determine what needs to be repaired or replaced to keep plumbing systems operational is a must for journeyman plumbers
-Organizational skills – keeping tools and work areas clean and orderly and maintaining a proper supply of plumbing parts
-Communication skills– from verbally communicating with general contractors, subcontractors, and supervisors to writing up parts lists and submitting PO’s, communication on the job site and off the job site is of the utmost importance
-Customer service– speaking with general contractors, subcontractors, customers, etc. about job details and making proper repairs and replacements to keep customers satisfied
-Tools to be Familiar with - Testing tools (pressure gauges, water sensors, leak detectors) Pipe tools (threaders, pipe benders), Cutting tools (tube cutters, hacksaws) Installation tools (pipe wrenches, joint compound, fitting brushes), Heavy Machinery (Bobcat, Mini-Ex, Hydrostatic Testing Machine, Etc.)
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Install Water Lines
2. Replace and Repair Plumbing Fixtures and Appliances
3. Troubleshoot Plumbing Problems
4. Perform Maintenance on Plumbing Systems
5. Clean and Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment
6. Must be able to follow direction and pay attention to details
7. Demonstrate proper and safe use of tools and equipment
8. Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
9. Ability to handle stress and disruptions, and maintain professionalism
10. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, dig, lift and carry 50+ lbs.
11. Inspecting structure, locating and marking positions of pipes, connections, and passage holes for pipe in walls and floors
12. Cutting openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
13. Cutting, threading, and bending pipe to required angles
14. Assembling and installing valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals and non-metals
15. Joining pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, and solder
16. Testing pipes by filling them with water or air and reads gauges to determine whether the system is working accurately
17. Repairing and maintaining plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains
18. Properly documenting your project folder while ensuring you have the most accurate and up-to-date job information before completion.
19. Properly clock in and out of your job with the correct cost codes
20. Develops specifications for plumbing materials, tools, and parts necessary to complete your job prior to the start of the job to the best of your ability.
21. Supervises work of helpers & apprentices keeps records; performs other work as required.
