A concerned homeowner approached me with a persistent problem: freezing water pipes in his back addition every winter. He had resorted to plowing snow against the addition, believing the floor underneath and skirting walls lacked sufficient insulation. Further investigation validated his concerns. To provide a lasting solution, I first installed a heavy-duty moisture barrier on the ground in the crawl space, followed by insulation of the floor joists. Then, I framed the bottom of the addition, added insulation, and covered it with plywood. The final step involved installing vinyl siding on all three sides. A homeowner recently reached out to me about completing a project that had been stalled for well over a year. The project entails a brick house with wood strapping and plywood installation, along with 12-inch overhangs, new steel on the back, black metal wrapping for window trim, black fascia and soffit, and grey siding installation. The customer's previous tenant had pets that damaged the flooring throughout the house. To remove the odor, I applied a shellac primer to the subfloors. Then, I installed LVP flooring throughout the house, including the stairs, with a matching bullnose. The customer had removed the baseboard, and after installing the flooring, I reinstalled the baseboard and replaced any damaged sections with new ones. This was a fun little transformation project for a customer. Unfortunately, I failed to take a before picture. The mechanicals for the house are in the entrance way of the home, and before, it was just two 24” metal louvered doors without a closet. The customer said she hated the look of the doors and complained about having little storage space for her things, so I came up with this solution. On the left and middle are two solid barn doors, and on the right is a bi-fold barn door. All three doors came unstained, and the homeowner stained them at her request. When you open the bi-fold door, that's the access to the closet, and that's when you can slide the solid barn doors down to access the mechanicals if you ever need to service anything. The barn door style gives them more room in their entrance way without the bulkiness of a regular swing-out door but also adds a very rustic look to the space.
