We have been busy lately! We were happy to help the town of Portland replace a couple of culverts.

This is important to do as this helps prevent flooding and keeps roads from collapsing.

Why Just Spreading Gravel Isn’t Enough

Think spreading a few loads of gravel will fix your driveway? It might look good for a few weeks — but here’s what actually happens:

❌ No compaction = gravel shifts and settles unevenly
❌ No crown = puddles form, soft spots appear
❌ No base work = gravel mixes with soil and disappears

🛠️ What to expect if you just spread gravel:

Looks decent for 1–2 months

Washouts and ruts begin by month 3

Needs rework by 6–12 months

✅ What we do instead:

Strip old material & regrade the sub-base

Compact dense base gravel in lifts

Crown and finish with new gravel

📆 Result: A driveway that lasts 5–10 years with basic maintenance.

What Is a Crowned Driveway?
A "crown" is the slight rise in the center of a gravel driveway that lets water run off both sides.

✅ No crown = water pooling
✅ Proper crown = longer driveway life

At Sheehy, every driveway is crowned, graded, and compacted — not just spread and leveled.
