The North Pole VFD had old and tired doors that needed to be replaced.

The task on hand was to address the issues being experienced:

We had a problem to solve in Kodiak Alaska. The doors on this home did not perform well in the high winds, cold weather and corrosive salt climate frequent to Kodiak.
The 2 doors were in the Grade 3 category, which are not a good long term option in Alaska.

This job required us to mobilize our aircraft, remote crew and local equipment. On arrival into Kodiak we transferred materials and equipment to our vehicles and proceeded to the job site.

We replaced the doors with our Grade 1 Modern-Flat door built for the weather elements commonly experienced in Kodiak and across Alaska.

The new doors are ready for the 100MPH winds, cold weather and challenging climate that is common to Kodiak.

The reflective windows provide natural light inside the garage while delivering maximum curb appeal to the home.

It was -32 below Zero while working in repairing garage doors damaged by the wind and stormy weather.

While stocking up on some supplies at the local AC we got to meet Brendalee. Brendalee happens to work at the store commuting to/from work on is ATV. Unfortunately the weather has frozen up his ignition making it difficult to start it up for the trip back home.

It was awesome to meet Brendalee a local resident of Bethel, hopefully the 4 wheelers has been running good for you!

Nome l, Alaska has been out back into service.

We just wrapped up a 10 day trip that covered several different job sites and projects in the town of Nome Alaska.

When we arrived we were tasked with placing doors back in service. The doors had issues ranging from losing heat during the winter, movement restrictions, jammed components, incomplete assemblies, broken operators and worn down components.

When a door is old doesn't necessarily mean that it is no longer usable. It saves a considerable amount of cost to rebuild an old door so long as the door structural integrity is sound and not compromised.

In 10 days of time we went through over 1000 LBs of materials in completing this project.

The buildings are now fully operational with quiet smooth running doors ready for the winter season 2026/2027.

At the completion of the trip we took a few hours to visit the Pilgrims Hot Springs which is situated at the basin of the Graphite One site. Graphite one is the largest graphite deposit known in America currently at the 8 of the Trump administration to bring into active mining status. If it is activated the ore is so rich that it would be trucked 80 miles over mountain roads to Nome, then loaded into a barge for over water transport to Seattle followed by a train transfer to the Midwest for processing. Think about how rich the souls are to move dirt such distance for graphite extraction. The area has natural hot grounds with the soils being at 80 degrees 2 feet below the surface. Alaska is truly a magnificent place.

We were working in the Village of Iliamna repairing and installing new doors. At the local gas pump we ran into a few kids filling up their 4-wheeler. We brought in a fresh dozen of Krispy Kreme donuts with us on arrival.

It was great to meet the kids and hope they got to enjoy the donuts with their friends and family.

We got to meet Heaven and Brooklyn while we were working in Kodiak. They are a family serving in the Coast Guard based in Kodiak.

They have spent two years on the island with another year to go before they decide if they extend their time here.

Our client in North Pole, Alaska reached out to us stating that the cold weather issues with the old low Grade and low R-Value doors was not something that was going to be tolerated any longer.

We replaced both doors with a high R Value Modern-Flat door with our vertical window install using our Grade 1 installation materials.

The Garco building in Nome Alaska received a major revamp and upgrade with 4 new Grade 2 Alaska Doors and two new entry arctic steel man doors.

The building was constructed back in the 1980's during the construction of the first port in Nome by Kiewit construction.

40 years later Kiewit Construction is back in Nome to build the next phase constructing a large port extension that is preparing for one of the big beautiful Ice Breakers to be stationed in Nome. The project schedule was tight to complete the necessary door replacements before the construction project started. The existing doors showed the toll of the extreme climate standard to None Alaka requiring demolition and replacement.

The building came with a lot of challenges common to remote Alaska locations. We faced elements of corrosion with 40 years of salt climate having its toll on the structure, moving soils that work against smooth door operations and a large crane that was in direct conflict with our work. On top of this the negative 34 temperatures and winds in excess of 30 knots made operations challenging testing the skill and strength of our team.

Our crew worked tirelessly from start to completion keeping the tight deadline in focus to ensure the Kiewit crews had a functional space to work out of beginning April 1st.

We got to meet Ben and Alyssa while working in Kodiak. What was absolutely amazing is Alyssa's mom and dad stopped in and met us at the Kodiak Hone Show.
