We do our best work when we’re given room to be creative—while still honoring the vision of the architect and designer. On this project, there were several “in-the-field” refinements, including rethinking the ceiling in the nook. Originally designed as a tray ceiling, we recommended a cathedral style instead and carried the shiplap into a clean, flush transition to drywall. It’s a subtle detail most won’t notice—but one we cared deeply about getting right. The hidden pantry is on my list of all time favorites 😎

There’s so many custom details here but as a carpenter by heart, what sticks out to me was the plan and thought process to order matching crown molding. It’s actually a 3 piece crown profile and we continued it throughout the remaining space. In my opinion, the only option if you plan to install crown moldings in any location where it will meet crown attached to cabinetry.

Here is one step of the process you won’t typically see on our feed and it’s something we do on every project. Prior to hanging board, we have found that the most efficient way to flatten and level walls is a combination of using these shims and a standard planer. This particular wall is both connected to the shower and vanity, very crucial that it’s both flat and level. It took us less than an hour to complete and time well spent. Instead of using PL premium, we use a glue that’s rated for foam, we noticed that the PL eats away at the foam and it also gets very messy, those who use PL probably know that I’m talking about.

We recently completed the install of our wood slat ceiling/wall detail. We used custom milled white oak, not the pre made panels you typically see, at roughly a 2” depth and we were also able to hide the majority of our fasteners. Although it felt never ending installing these one piece at a time, we’re extremely proud with the outcome. We then finished it using natural. It’s going to be super exciting to see this project come to life as we approach the finish line.

Framing has been completed at our new workshop and front porch entry project located in . Also (not pictured) roofing and relocating the main overhead electrical service to the rear of the workshop has also been completed. Now, while we wait for to send the main service underground, we’ll begin wiring for electrical and also mechanical work. The workshop will receive a mini split system to heat and cool the space. On top of all that, we’re also working on installing a whole home generator for our clients from . A ton of moving parts to coordinate but we have a great team working really hard, we good!

I’d say this is a good before and after. And to think all we had to do was lift a 900lb steel beam, totally redesign a staircase and relocate 2nd floor mechanicals in order to widen the floor plan by 6’. My favorite part about this is...you will never be able to tell what we really had to do.
