🚨 This homeowner spent THOUSANDS trying to solve a raccoon problem… and the raccoons still came back.

Can you spot everything that went wrong? 👇

This company screwed a ridge vent guard directly into the roof, never sealed the fasteners, and when I lifted on it, the entire guard pulled right out.

But that’s not even the worst part…

The homeowner wasn’t told it had been installed, the torn shingles from the original raccoon damage were never properly repaired, and before long the raccoons simply made a brand-new hole through the soffit.

This is exactly why getting the animal out is only half the battle.

If the roof isn’t repaired correctly and every vulnerable entry point isn’t addressed, another animal will eventually find its way back inside.

💬 Have you ever paid to fix something only to have the exact same problem happen again?

This is why a REAL roof inspection should include the attic. 👀🏠

From the roof, you would never know this was happening.

Inside the attic, we found a bathroom exhaust vent that had come disconnected from the exterior vent port. Instead of sending hot, moisture-filled air outside, it was dumping that moisture directly into the attic.

The result? Black mold developing on the roof decking.

This is exactly why Rhino Shield Roofing & Construction doesn’t believe a roof inspection should stop at the shingles.

We inspect the roof AND the attic because some of the most serious problems with a roofing system can only be seen from underneath.

A roof can look perfectly fine from outside while moisture, mold and damaged decking are developing where nobody can see them.

Don’t just inspect the shingles. Inspect the entire roofing system.

Most roofing companies would simply load this gap full of sealant and move on.

We won’t.

The problem is the waterproofing behind this brick transition has failed. If a new roof is installed without addressing the underlying issue, water can still find its way into the home. Covering it with caulk might make it look better today, but it doesn’t solve the problem.

The correct repair requires removing this course of brick so proper waterproofing can be installed behind it before the new roof goes on.

Homeowners deserve the truth, even when it’s the more expensive option. Our job isn’t to win the job at all costs—it’s to make sure your home doesn’t leak after we’re gone.

Would you rather hear the truth or the cheapest answer?

⚠️ Be careful who you trust to install wildlife guards on your roof.

This homeowner was told that once the screws go through the ridge vent shingles, the heat from the sun will cause the shingles to seal around the threads and prevent leaks. The problem? That’s not what the shingle manufacturers recommend.

Every pe*******on through your roofing system creates a potential point of failure. If a product requires fastening through the shingles, you need to understand exactly what that means for the long-term performance of your roof.

We see homeowners spend thousands on a new roof, only to have other contractors start drilling holes into it afterward. Always verify that any modification to your roofing system follows manufacturer guidelines.

Have you ever had another contractor install something on your roof after it was replaced?

💰 This is one of the most expensive asphalt shingle roofs money can buy.

These are CertainTeed Grand Manor shingles, often installed on luxury homes to create a high-end slate appearance. But even the best roofing materials in the world can’t protect a home if the details are done wrong.

In this video, you can actually see raw wood exposed where the roof meets the brick sidewall. Water has been getting behind the roofing system, and the damage is already starting.

This is why roof inspections matter. Most leaks don’t happen in the middle of the roof—they happen where different building materials come together.

A premium roof is only as good as the installation.

🚨 $2 MILLION HOME… and I can fit my entire hand through the gap where the stone meets the soffit.

This is one of the biggest problems I see with new construction today.

The mason installs the stone.
The sider installs the siding.
The roofer installs the roof.

But who is responsible for making sure all of these different materials actually transition together and keep wildlife, water, and air out of the home?

On this house, the stone wasn’t step flashed, the transitions weren’t sealed properly, and there are gaps large enough for animals to walk right into the structure.

The problem isn’t always bad contractors. The problem is homes are being built so fast that critical details get missed.

Price tag doesn’t guarantee quality. I’ve found some of the worst construction defects on some of the most expensive homes.

Would you expect these kinds of gaps on a $2 million house? 👇

🚨 This is why you can’t judge a roof from the ground. 🚨

This flashing was installed against cultured stone, but I could actually get my finger BEHIND it. When I looked closer, I found an opening under the eave large enough to get my hand into.

Not only were there rodent droppings coming out of the area, but there were also exposed fasteners and multiple opportunities for water intrusion.

The scary part? Most homeowners would never know this problem exists until they have a leak, animal issue, or expensive structural damage.

Just because a roof looks good from the driveway doesn’t mean it was installed correctly.

🚨 NEVER buy a house based on a drone inspection alone. 🚨

This roof was PAINTED to hide the damage. The home inspector used a drone, told the buyer there was another 5–10 years of life left, and completely missed what was actually happening.

From the ground and from a drone, this roof looked fine. Up close? The shingles were failing, damaged, and nearing replacement.

A drone is a great tool, but it should NEVER replace a hands-on roof inspection.

If you’re buying a home, spending a few hundred dollars on a professional roof inspection could save you THOUSANDS in unexpected repairs.

Most homeowners would never notice this… but these foam closure strips are CRITICAL on a metal roof 👀

They’re not just for weather protection — they help stop bats, mice, squirrels, and other animals from entering the ribs of the metal panels. Once animals get inside these openings, they can travel directly into the attic and living space of the home. 🦇🐭🏠

This is why proper installation details matter. A roof isn’t just shingles or metal panels — it’s the small details that protect your home long-term.
