If I teach my children anything, I hope they learn that nothing comes for free. There is no substitute for hard work. When no one believes in you, believe in yourself. An honest days work allows you to rest your head in peace at night. Stay steadfast and determined, and understand that anything else is just noise

So proud of this dude right here. Graduating 8th grade and received the “Rising Star” award for 3-D art! He will also be headed to a different high school next year because he was accepted into LCPS’s HAMSci program where he’ll be focusing on a specialized Health and Medical Sciences curriculum durning his next 4 years in high school!
He also managed to accomplish all of this and while being chosen as “Biggest Jokester” for his class superlative! Congrats Rowen, you deserve it! Can’t wait to see you kick high schools butt as well!

Had the pleasure of getting to build some pieces for the National Children’s Museum in Washington DC. Such and amazing place where kids really get to explore and interact with different exhibits, and what cooler area for me to be able to be involved in then allowing kids to get to build with this awesome Rigamajig area. Really allows for the kids to express their imagination into 3-D creations. Absolutely love this museum, and highly recommend anyone who has kids to go check this place out. They have so much to do, you can easily get lost in here for hours, while not stop stimulating their minds, imagination, and creativity!

Yesterday I completed one of my hardest goals that I’ve been actively pursuing for about 6 years now, and that was to run my first marathon! I got to run in the 30th anniversary Philadelphia marathon, and it was extra special because I got to run with my wife Abigail for her first, my sister in law, Joelle for her 3rd, and our good friend Brett Hatfield for his first as well.

It honestly was a surreal experience, and even more surreal thinking back on it. There was 34,000 runners this year and I was so happy to be one of them, but it really was a long time coming.

I started running about 6 years ago and signed up for my first 5k race 5 years ago. I was never a runner and never had the body to be a runner, but I started running because I like being outside, it’s free, it’s healthy, and for me it gave me a break and provided mental clarity about everything going on in life. Soon it was something I enjoyed and as soon as I got a taste of being at the races, a full marathon is always what I set my sights on. But it took a really long time to get there and had a lot of ups and downs along the way including tearing both meniscus in each leg. I never had surgery, and just focused on properly training, stretching and strength training to build up my leg muscles to be able to better take the impact of my knee joints. Focusing on my training I was able to drop close to 20lbs and shaved 20 mins off my half marathon time durning this full, but most importantly I was able to complete the full without any of my normal knee pain.

I had some hugely inspiring friends and family help me along this way. None more than my wife Abigail though. She has trained so hard this past year, and her results speak for themselves. It really makes me realize how important your life partner is, and how fortunate I am to have mine. Not just for me, but especially for our kids to have someone they can always look to as a prime example of hard work, dedication, and both physical and mental. I am so thankful to have her as a mother to my children, and I always love to see people’s reactions when they find out she birthed 5 children.

Now I can’t wait to see what’s next in this running journey!

SawStop saves my finger
again. Yes, embarrassing to admit this is the 2nd time my SawStop has saved my finger, I should be 2 digits down right now.

Once again, doing something I really shouldn’t be doing on the table saw, ripping some very small strips, but I only had 2 to cut and didn’t properly set up with some feather boards thinking I got it. When it went off it happened so quick, I literally had no time to react, but in the realization of what happened my first thought was, did this thing just fault?

It must have hit something in the wood, even though I could clearly see there wasn’t anything in the wood. My second thought was did my hand just get close enough that it completely the circuit and trip it without even touching it? But I knew for certain there was no way I actually touched the blade, I’ve been doing this way too long and I’m way too skilled to not know where my hands are, there had to be something wrong with the machine

Well sure enough when I looked down at my hand I could see where the blade just barely nicked my finger and I was in pure dumb founded shock. And that is true how it happens, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing this, or how skilled you may think you are, that one time that you do something sketchy because you think you got it, and try to cut corners without getting yourself properly set up, even for 2 rips

In less than a blink of an eye it can happen when you swear you have it, and I’ve seen it happened first hand on a table saw that didn’t have SawStop’s technology, and not only the accident itself but the months after and the recovery involved. Super thankful for SawStop, I will never have any other table saw. Now I just need to practice being a little more careful
