What does it take to dismantle a 198-foot wastewater clarifier that extends 20 feet below grade?

NDA member Empire Services faced tight access, massive internal components and complex lifting and rigging requirements while helping upgrade critical wastewater infrastructure in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

đź’Ą From the Archives: Five times the typical amount of explosives, eight blast floors, more than 3,300 drilled holes and a brand-new building just 11.5 meters away.

In December 2001, NDA member Controlled Demolition Inc. helped bring down St. John’s House in Bootle, England — a 21-level structure dubbed the “sickest building in the U.K.” after an unusually high number of workers fell ill there.

The complex implosion required CDI to carefully control the building’s 13-second collapse, directing its massive central core away from the neighboring replacement facility while pulling four precast wings inward.
