Swale, swale, swale, what do we have here??!!

We just wrapped up installing this gorgeous river rock swale as part of our latest design build, and it’s prompted us to look back on several others we’ve built this past year.

Swales are an important tool for managing the flow of water after a storm — they help to direct, slow, and capture excess rainfall that would otherwise pool and cause flooding and damage.

Swales allow water to drain out of an area slowly over time, providing ideal habitat for water-loving native plants. During dry spells, the swales serve as an attractive river bed, providing functional beauty to a thoughtfully designed landscape.

Long, hot days in the garden make it possible for plants to grow very big, very fast— it’s hard to keep up with all the abundance! In this video, farmer Josie shares her best tips for planting all types of summer squashes, including zucchini, yellow crookneck, and patty pan.

The ideal seeding window for summer squash is May 1 through June 15. Transplants can be planted for a while longer, through mid-July. If you’d like a harvest this year, get them in ASAP!!

What a difference a couple of months can make! This client first reached out to us last summer, asking if we could help expand her existing backyard garden. We finalized the design plan over the winter and installed the pathways and new beds in March. She reached out to share how well they’re doing now, and to offer words of praise: “The new beds blended beautifully with my 20 year old beds. The beds are solidly made. The craftsmanship to get them level was fantastic. The plants love the proprietary soil mixture and the drip irrigation system.”

Whether you have an existing garden you’d like to upgrade, or you want to try growing food for the first time, our skilled design and installation teams are ready to help!

Cabbage patch kids, reporting for duty!! Our garden crew are busy carefully tending to newly planted peppers and tomatoes, and meanwhile it’s *finally* time to harvest spring-planted cabbages — they certainly have their hands full!! 🥬

Summer is officially here! Tomatoes are a favorite crop for most of our clients, and planting them well sets them up for success. Watch to see Carly show us how it’s done! 🍅🍅🍅

Spread the word - Love & Carrots is hiring! 🧑‍🌾👷‍♀️ We are seeking both Installation Crew Members and an Assistant Project Manager to join our team.

Installation crew members are responsible for bringing garden designs into reality. They work outside in all weather conditions installing vegetable gardens and perennial landscapes, as well as building fences, patios, and other hardscaping elements. Ideal candidates are solutions-oriented, enjoy working in teams, and have prior work experience in construction and/or landscaping.

The Assistant Project Manager will help to coordinate the many moving pieces of our design and installation pipeline. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and loves coming up with innovative solutions to common problems. If you find joy in both native plants and well-maintained spreadsheets, we’d love to hear from you!

Please see our website for the full position descriptions. Candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and both positions are available until filled - apply today!
