Trying to decide whether to remodel your home or move? Before you start browsing real estate listings or planning a renovation, there are three questions you should ask yourself.

1️⃣ Do you love your location?
If you love your neighborhood, have great schools nearby, or can’t imagine leaving the community you’ve built, it may be worth exploring how your current home could better meet your needs before deciding to move.

2️⃣ Can your home structurally support what you need?
Maybe you’re dreaming of a larger kitchen, more functional storage, an additional bathroom, or more room for your family. It's time to consider whether your existing home can accommodate those changes and what it would take to make them happen.

3️⃣ Would the cost of moving get you the remodel you want?
Buying a new home comes with more expenses than the purchase price alone. Thinking about selling your home? Before you remodel, it’s worth asking: which improvements will actually matter to a future buyer?

Not every renovation is going to give you the same return, and spending more doesn’t necessarily mean getting more back when it’s time to sell.

Kitchens and bathrooms are often high-impact spaces because buyers notice when they feel dated or don’t function well. Improving curb appeal can also make a difference before a buyer even walks through the front door. But that doesn’t mean you need to completely transform these spaces. Smaller, targeted updates can sometimes make more sense than a full, high-end renovation when your goal is to improve the home before selling.

On the other hand, highly personalized upgrades or major renovations that go far beyond what’s typical for the neighborhood may not recoup their full cost at resale. If an improvement is designed around very specific tastes or adds features that future buyers may not value in the same way, you may not see that investment reflected in the sale price.

The key is knowing what makes sense for your home, your market, and your timeline before you start making decisions.

Nothing makes us happier than hearing a homeowner say they love their new space. That's why we do what we do.

With this project, our goal was to transform these rooms into spaces the homeowners could love for years to come: making them feel more open and functional while still honoring the character of the original 1980s home.

The original kitchen felt cramped and dated, so we looked beyond the kitchen itself to find a solution. By borrowing square footage from the dining room and pushing back the refrigerator wall, we created room for a large island and a much more comfortable flow for cooking, gathering, and entertaining.

The original dining room took on a completely new purpose as a home office. We added french doors that bring in natural light. We love using French doors because they help to create some privacy in a space while still allowing for connection to the rest of the home. We also added custom wainscoting that preserves the character of the original space. Matching the existing trim required carefully rebuilding the wall, but that attention to detail meant the new work felt like it had always belonged there.

The home now feels completely different, but it still feels like itself.

That balance is one of our favorite parts of remodeling: finding thoughtful ways to make a home work better for the people who live there without losing the details that make it special.

Don't have a mudroom but wishing you did? You might not need a whole room to get the benefits of one.

A well-designed mudroom space can be created in places you may not have thought to use, like an entryway, a hallway, or an unused stretch of wall near the door. The ultimate goal of a mudroom is to give all those everyday things that tend to pile up a place to go, so you don't necessarily need an entire room dedicated to it!

This showroom display is a perfect example. Built-in cabinetry creates a dedicated home for coats and backpacks, while a bench gives you a place to sit and take off your shoes. Open shelving keeps smaller items organized, and a mail organizer creates a useful drop zone right where you need it. The cabinet at the end provides easy access to keys and other things you need when you're heading out the door.

It's not a traditional mudroom, but it gives you many of the same benefits: less clutter, better organization, a comfortable space to get ready to leave the house, and a space designed around the way your family actually moves through your home.

This is just one example of how we can rethink an underused area and turn it into something that works harder for you.
