This is the plan we shared with the family:

🌳 Remove the trees that were too close to the fire. They also have to come down to bring power to the new home site. 🏚️ Relocate the structures that survived. 🔨 Demolish the dilapidated ones. 🌾 Clear the massive cane growth and make a real difference across the property.

If he needed help knowing what comes next, I told him I'd walk him through that too.

Three weeks later, he called and asked me to meet him at the property one last time. He said, "We've thought long and hard, and interviewed quite a few, and I know you're our guy."

I don't take that lightly. We started right away. 💪

The mezzanine

Here's a smart decision from this couple.

On a farm, storage space is gold. A living quarters build-out inside the shell would have taken floor space away from storage.

So they chose to build a mezzanine above the new living space. The living quarters walls carry the structure. The result is a new floor on top, and their original storage is still there.

We framed the rim beam and joists, then laid the subfloor. Framing and decking started September 22, and by the next morning the deck was done.

Good planning gives you more space, not less. 💡

A mother's farm

Then came the hardest part of this story.

One early morning, the mother woke to popping and crackling. It was fire. She ran to the nearest neighbor's house to call 911. By the time she got back, her home was gone.

Her son took the reins after that. He started interviewing contractors and telling us what he sees for this farm.

He's bringing his mother back home to her farm. He and his wife will build their forever home there, and she will live in it with them.

That's the reason behind this project, and it's why it means so much to us. 🙏

The meeting and the land

When a family sits down with several contractors, you can feel how much trust matters.

I was the first one to meet with this family. They told me about the farm. Their mother had lived there for more than 30 years with their father. After he passed, she kept the place going. She worked hard, and her son helped when and where he could.

But a farm like that takes more hands than one person has. Slowly, the land started taking it back.

Look at these photos. Cane, brush, and vines were growing over barns and sheds. In places, the earth had taken over the buildings.

An empty shell is a big open space. Our job was to turn it into a home.

We framed out four spaces: a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and living room.

Every header, every rough opening, and every door and window gets the same attention to detail. A door that swings right and a window that sits square start with framing done right.

You can also see the plumbing stub-outs in the bathroom area. Plan the layout well, and everything that comes later goes smoothly.

This is what 25 years teaches you. You build it so the next trade is set up for success.

Where it started

Years ago, I met a couple with a dream and a piece of land.

They told me what they wanted to build on their new farm. I listened, and over the years I've watched those ideas turn into something real.

I came in right after their shell building went up. I brought power to the building and installed the electrical service. It was a simple job on paper, but it's the one that lit the place up.

Then he asked me, "Do you do other aspects of construction?"

I told him the truth. I have 25+ years in the trades, from residential work to commercial and industrial construction, where I spent most of my career. When he heard that I know building from the ground up, he said, "Well, I want you to do our living quarters build-out when we're ready."

That day has come. Over the next few weeks, I'll walk you through what we built. 🏗️

Not every job comes with a coworker like this. 🐐😂

While we were out working this farm, one of the residents decided he wasn't going to let a little fence-building keep him from making a new friend. He walked right up, got in frame, and made sure he got his picture taken too.

This is the side of the job you don't always see — the quiet moments in between the hard work. The reason we love what we do isn't just the finished product. It's moments like this one.

Over 1,000 linear feet. One continuous line of protection for a family's new herd. 🐑🐐

Fencing isn't just about marking a property line — it's about keeping animals safe, keeping predators out, and giving a family peace of mind that their animals have a secure place to call home. We ran welded wire livestock fence across the entire pasture perimeter, tied into gates, and made sure every foot of it was built to last.

That's our rig out there in the pasture (yes, that's us!) getting it done from open field to finished fence line. Bobo Construction & Land Management — wherever the work takes us.

"Home, At Last" (The Animals + The Heart of It All)

This is why we do it. ❤️

After weeks of clearing, excavating, rebuilding, and fencing — the barns are ready, the pastures are secure, and the animals are finally home. Goats, sheep, a horse, donkeys, geese — a whole farm family settling into the space we helped prepare for them.

This job started as a response to a Facebook message. It became something we're genuinely proud of. Because at Bobo Construction & Land Management, it's never just about the concrete, the dirt, or the fence line — it's about the people (and animals) on the other side of it.
