Project Highlight: Eric & Wendy Schmidt Hall - Princeton University

BrightTree Studios is proud to spotlight our work on Princeton's new home for computer science and engineering research. This transformation project combines a 95,000 GSF renovation of the historic Guyot Hall with a 136,000 GSF addition, creating a brand-new 231,000 GSF facility for the School of Engineering & Applied Science.

Schmidt Hall unites the Department of Computer Science, Center for IT Policy, Center for Statistics & Machine Learning, and the Princeton Institute for Computational Science & Engineering under one roof. Plus a 120-seat lecture hall, 60-seat conference room, and specialized labs for optics, fabrication, and wireless networking, designed to spark discovery and collaboration for the next generation of engineers.

Building the Digital Backbone of Tomorrow's Schools

Today's K-12 classrooms run on far more than chalkboards. think 1:1 device ratios, integrated security systems, and wireless networks that need to reach every corner of a building. But many schools are working within structures never designed for this level of connectivity.

This insight dives into how thoughtful infrastructure planning, from Wi-Fi layouts around metal and masonry to future-proofed capacity in equipment rooms, helps schools adapt to whatever tech comes next, without full renovation every few years.

Back to School, Back to Building the Future!

This month, as students head back to campus, we'd like to highlight a project- Wake Technical Community College's new 80,000 GSF Advanced Technology Center that is set to open its doors later this year!

As the third academic building on Wake Tech's East Campus, this state-of-the-art facility will be a launchpad for Industry 4.0 careers, equipping students with hands-on, real-world training in robotics, mechatronics, geomatics, and biopharmaceuticals. From flexible teaching labs and high-bay training spaces to make spaces and a simulated pharmaceutical manufacturing suite complete with industry-standard airlocks and gowning areas, every square foot is designed to bridge the gap between classroom and career.

Specialized labs for engineering and microelectronics programs will give students access to the same equipment and control trainers used across today's advanced industries, because career-ready education means training on tomorrow's technology, today.

We're proud to be part of a project that reflects Wake Tech's mission:

The goal isn't to hide security, it's to design spaces where it naturally belongs, so students can focus on learning, not the protections around them. Powering the Future of Fusion Research

An 85,000-square-foot facility rising in Princeton, NJ, built for the U.S. Department of Energy and Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, with architecture by SmithGroup, the PPIC is designed to accelerate the next generation of fusion research.

Replacing aging infrastructure, the facility brings together advanced labs, collaborative workspaces, and public-facing spaces built for interdisciplinary science and global partnership. BrightTree Studios partnered on the project to build a technology foundation, audiovisual, telecom, and security, flexible enough to evolve alongside the research itself.

Every space was designed for one goal: let researchers move seamlessly between labs, seminars, and global collaborations without ever thinking about the technology around them.

More than a building, it's an investment in the future of clean fusion energy.
