A severe weather day is brewing for Wednesday. In New England we always need to be prepared for weather. It does not matter if it is winter storms leaving snow and ice or summer storms with lots of lightning and high winds. There are a few things that you can do to stay prepared for storms throughout the year.
🔦Do you have a preparedness kit ready? This may include extra batteries, flashlights, battery operated candles, and pet leashes/pet carriers.
🔋Do you have batteries for your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (and have you tested them?) It is important to test these items at minimum every 6 months. However, testing them before every storm would be a fantastic habit.
⛽️Do you have fresh gasoline if a storm is pending? Have you actually started your portable generator monthly to ensure it is working properly?
💡If you have a whole home generator, we remind you to shovel a path to the generator and around the generator during winter storms. About 3 feet. 📏Proper ventilation for the generators exhaust is important for its overall health, longevity, and usage. During summer storms remove any debris that may be in and around the generator area.
⚠️As always, we URGE you to ⚠️
🏡Safely use your portable generator in a well-ventilated area
🔋Ensure battery operated carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are tested and working prior to using appliances and generators that emit carbon monoxide or a flame.
🔌Never improperly hook up a generator causing a back feed through your system
🚧Run your generator within its operating parameters and do not overload it
☎️Call the experts if you need help. Do not let pride get in between operating safely and a possible electrical emergency!
🔥Ensure you store gas properly away from ignition sources
👍Always consult your operating manual for safety tips and safe operation
