Today while driving through one of our local neighborhoods, we were flagged down by some folks who were outside working in their own yard. They asked if we could give them an estimate to get their lawn taken care of.
After talking with them, we found out they had hired someone last week who quoted them between $100 and $200 to service the yard. They were supposed to show up at 1 PM, but didn’t arrive until around 8 PM. From what we were told, they worked for about 45 minutes, barely made a dent in the job, and talked the homeowner into paying 50% that day with the promise that they would come back Saturday to finish the rest.
Saturday came, and they never showed up.
When the homeowner called, they were told they “weren’t trying to blow them off,” but at that point the homeowner had already had enough and told them not to worry about coming back.
We serviced the lawn today for a fair price, cheaper than what they had been quoted by the other provider. Mowing, w**d eating, and blowing everything off took us 23 minutes from start to finish.
The customer was happy, and we’re thankful to say they are now a new bi-weekly customer.
This is exactly why fly-by-night lawn care hurts the whole industry. It makes homeowners hesitant to trust anyone, including the legitimate companies that show up, do what they say they’re going to do, charge fairly, and stand behind their work.
People work hard for their money. When they spend it on a service, they deserve a company that works hard to earn it. That means showing up when you say you will, doing the job right, and treating the customer with respect.
At The Lawn Mafia, we may have a bold name, but we take our work seriously. We show up, we do the job right, and we treat people fair.
