The house and detached garage were still wearing their original vertical board siding, and the wood deck off the back door had reached the end of its life. We resided both structures, replaced the soffit, fascia, gutters and downspouts, and pulled the old deck boards in favor of a poured concrete patio. The result is a matched exterior with a lot less upkeep than what it replaced.

Next time it pours, watch what the water actually does. Gutters spilling over the front edge, water sheeting off the corners, a downspout that's pulled loose, or a puddle forming right against the foundation. Those are the spots that turn into real problems once fall leaves start packing everything full.

Catch it now while it's an easy fix and not a wet basement in November.
