This floorcloth was on my workspace for a while, as you can see, it's quite elaborate. The colors are all chosen to match a wallpaper I hung for this client and this floorcloth goes in the hallway that leads to the powder room I wallpapered.
It's 3ft x 6ft, and with all my mats, it has 5 coats of Satin floor poly on top and has a rubber coating on the underside so it stays in place.

I just loved this paper. It's in a house I've done a bit of work, in Southport. The poppies are a light blue grey, and it's just lovely. It's one of my favorites.

I hung this paper last October, I remember oading my car, when finished, and mingling with Trick-or-treaters out on the streets. This was a great paper for this room, plaster walls were pretty rough. In my youth........I would have skim coated the walls with plaster and joint compound to get a nice smooth surface, but, no one wanted that.....So, this paper was chosen because it would hide all the plaster imperfections, and it certainly did that.

This was a very pretty, very colorful William Morris paper. I think it was a digital print on a heavy vinyl backing. It's really Fabulous
and easy enough to hang

This is a really sweet wallpaper, Sailboats. Made by Sara Fitz in York Harbor, Maine. I've hung her papers a few times now. They are really simple patterns, like this on white background. This particular bedroom was a challenge, which I am drawn to...No flat ceiling, all angles and built-in shelf. But, I loved it and it came out so fantastic!!

I recently hung this gorgeous Grasscloth in Damariscotta. Grasscloths are really beautiful, adding color and texture. This color is a midnight blue, and the ceiling lights on the paper looks like midnight on the water. Grasscloths are fussy papers, in that, you cannot get paste or water on the front. Tricky, but do-able. The sheets are also hung so that every other sheet is reversed, this is done to keep a more overall uniformed look. With the trim crispy white, the end result is simply spectacular. This is my most favorite paper, now......

A sale of hand painted floorcloths will be held by Susan Connery between noon and 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Willing Workers Hall in New Harbor.

Through the medium of the canvas floorcloth, Susan has revived a tradition with a long pedigree in the domestic arts. Her floorcloths represent ‘art that works,’ both decorative and functional. Typically, her clients deploy floorcloths in high traffic areas, before the kitchen sink or in the bathroom. But they can enliven the home wherever they are placed, say an entryway, beneath a dining room table, or in a child’s nursery.

The large inventory of floorcloths on display for this sale reflects the full range of Susan’s creative vision and talents. If her work demonstrates a singular trait, it is originality. The inspiration for Susan’s designs is unlimited in scope as is her gift for composition and color. The great practical asset of these floorcloths, moreover, is their durability, treasured objects that can be passed from one generation to the next.

From conception to ex*****on, each floorcloth undergoes a series of discrete steps in its construction, from the sizing and priming of the canvas, through the application of the hand painted design, to the multiple coats of clear polyurethane and non-skid rubber surface that seal the work top and bottom.

These first photos are Before I got on these stairs. The After pics are really dynamite!! This project in Southport took me a week to complete, and I had to get into very difficult positions......It's all paint.

Sproul's Furniture, in Newcastle, Maine, carries a couple of my floorcloths. Here is one, Maine's Original State Flag, (the White Pine and North Star), in their current ad in the Lincoln County News, The Free Press, and next week in the Courier Gazette. They have it displayed in a really nice setting, on the wall here. While Floorcloths go on the floor, I am bending my resolve to seeing them hung on walls. Here, it looks really nice.

It was a fun challenge to hang this beautiful paper by GP & J Baker, called Indus Flower, in green. The paper itself was really fabulous to hang, pasting the wall not the paper. But, I had 12 ft heights on 2 opposing walls and that's a challenge. But, me?....That's exactly what I love about wallpaper! The challenges to make it look absolutely (almost) 100% perfect. I do have tricks too.....The setting also gorgeous, Southport, coastal Maine. A note on purchasing wallpaper: these days you will see "Peel-n-Stick" as a choice for sticking the paper to the wall. I think someone who never hung wallpaper came up with the idea. Maybe thinking that it would be easy for the average homeowner, but I can only think it would be a nightmare. They give no extra room on top or bottom of the sheets, not rolls, of paper. Assuming that all walls, ceilings, trim, and houses are square and level. I've yet to work in a house that is totally square.

I was working in Union this week, got to hang this really pretty paper with Bluebirds, love it. A small bedroom in an old working farm, walls and ceiling received good plaster attention, ( by someone other than me...I don't do that work anymore). Trim was painted. The first room to be refinished, I hope to continue to the next space, when they are ready.
