Don’t Starve Your AC for Air

🌬️ Closing AC vents doesn’t turn a central system into a zoned system.

It may seem sensible to close the vents in unused rooms, but your ductwork and blower were designed to move a certain amount of air. Closing several vents can increase duct pressure, reduce airflow and make comfort problems worse.

Keep supply registers open and make sure returns aren’t blocked by furniture, curtains or rugs. If one room is consistently too hot or too cold, the answer may be proper airflow balancing, duct repair or professionally designed zoning.

Every home is different—and in South Louisiana, correct airflow also plays an important role in humidity control.

🌬️Fans Cool People. AC Handles the Heat.

A ceiling fan can make a muggy South Louisiana afternoon feel better—but it doesn’t replace your AC’s moisture removal.

Use a comfortable downward breeze while you’re in the room, and turn the fan off when you leave. The breeze helps cool you; it doesn’t lower the room’s temperature.

If the house feels persistently damp or clammy even when the thermostat looks right, mention that during your next service visit. Temperature is only part of comfort down here!

🌡️ Keeping it cool TIP

During hot, humid weather, leave your thermostat’s fan set to AUTO—not ON.

When the fan runs continuously after the outdoor unit shuts off, it can blow moisture remaining on the indoor coil back into your home. That can make the house feel sticky even when the temperature looks comfortable.

If your home stays above 60% humidity, lowering the thermostat may not solve the real problem. Airflow, drainage, equipment sizing or outside-air infiltration may need to be checked.
