Asphalt looks “oily” after rolling primarily because the heavy machinery relies on water to lubricate the heavy steel drums, preventing them from tearing the new hot, sticky asphalt.

When the water mixes with the natural bitumen (tar), it creates a temporary, reflective, oily-looking sheen.

The crew has learned on major thing:

If you stop moving, you’re going to be too tired to get back up. So instead of taking breaks, they’re walking around, hydrating and maybe making some shots 🏀

There’s something that happens when a crew has to work with heavy and loud machinery:
