If you love your air conditioner, and we all do – then there is one man you should thank in particular.
Willis H. Carrier built the first modern electrical air conditioning unit in 1901.
But you may be surprised why.
At the time, Sackett-Wilhelms Lithographing & Publishing Company had a serious issue on their hands. Temperature fluctuations in the printing rooms were causing their paper to expand and contract, and their drying ink to smudge.
Mr. Carrier installed his AC unit in 1902 to combat these problems, controlling the temperature and humidity of the building – et voila, their issues were solved!
More people started to catch on to the fact that these systems were pretty nifty, and, by 1914, domestic AC units began to really take off!
The rest is history :)
