Sometimes a project calls for a few extra hands…and sometimes it calls for a crane. 🏗️

Last week, we brought in Dagan Cranes out of Williston to help us tackle the not-so-small task of hoisting this sauna into its final location.

It was one of those all-hands-on-deck days where communication, teamwork, and having the right people for the job make all the difference. Our crew worked together with the crane team to make sure everything was moved carefully, safely, and exactly where it needed to go.

A little planning, a lot of teamwork, and one pretty impressive lift later—the sauna is resting beautifully in its final home.

We’re always grateful for the great Vermont trades and partners we get to work alongside to make moments like this happen.

There’s a big difference between installing something and taking the time to make sure it’s right.

Whether it’s a stair tread, a piece of trim, or one of the countless details throughout a home, our team measures, fits, adjusts, and checks the work until it’s where it needs to be.

Could you just slam a stair tread down and hope it works for the next few decades? Sure. That’s just not how we build.

Our clients trust us to create homes they’ll live in and rely on every day. That means putting the same level of care into the small details as we do the big ones—because great craftsmanship isn’t just about how something looks when we leave. It’s about how it performs for years to come.

The trees are changing, the sweatshirts are out and the exterior tasks are being buttoned up.

Wait… is that a crane in the last photo?

One of our favorite parts of building custom homes is finding ways to bring different natural materials together.

Stone, metal, reclaimed wood, concrete—each one brings its own texture, character, and purpose to a home. Sometimes it’s about creating warmth, sometimes it’s about durability or function, and sometimes it’s simply about finding the material that feels right for the space.

But the goal is never to use something just because it looks good. Every choice is made with our clients, their vision, and the surrounding landscape in mind. We want the finished home to give them exactly what they need while feeling like it belongs naturally in the place where it was built.

When the materials, architecture, craftsmanship, and landscape all work together, that’s when a home really starts to feel like it belongs.

Every Roots project is different. Different designs, different locations, different clients—but the standard for how we build stays the same.

That consistency comes from having great people on the ground and strong communication across every job. Our project managers work closely with our crews and trade partners day-to-day, while owner Ben Gould stays connected across projects to make sure the details, craftsmanship, and client experience reflect what we expect from a Roots home.

It’s not about every house looking the same. It’s about making sure every client receives the same level of care, communication, and quality—no matter what or where we’re building.

Some of our favorite moments happen during the finishing stages of a build. Sanding, checking the fit, making small adjustments—it's where custom details come to life.

These built-in cabinets, nestled between reclaimed beams, were designed specifically for this home. They don't just add storage—they create character, warmth, and a sense that this space was always meant to be here.

That's the beauty of a custom home. It's an opportunity to build around the way you want to live, filling it with details that are both functional and meaningful.

So we're curious... if you could add one feature to your dream home, what would it be? A hidden pantry? A reading nook? A timber-framed great room? A workshop? Tell us in the comments—we'd love to hear your ideas.

What is Derek doing today?

Technically, our site lead is outside carefully securing boards to concrete footings and making sure everything is exactly where it needs to be.

But we don’t want the technical answer.

We want your best wrong answers only. Is he building a ski jump? Starting Vermont’s smallest boardwalk? Creating an extremely complicated place to put his coffee?

Whatever the answer, Derek is probably making sure it’s level, secure, and done right. Drop your best guess below. 👇

Our Boulder Pass home is coming along beautifully, and we’re reaching that point in the build where all of the individual details are starting to come together.

Outside, the stonework and siding continue to take shape, giving the home a strong connection to its Vermont surroundings and setting the tone before you ever walk through the door.

Inside, the finishes are starting to shine. Tile is going into the bathrooms, while reclaimed wood beams and trim bring warmth, history, and character throughout the home. These are the details we’ve been looking forward to seeing since the early stages of the build.

There’s still work to be done, but Boulder Pass is starting to show us exactly what it’s going to be — and we like what we see.

Built with character. Built for its surroundings. Built to last.
