School is in full swing, and so are career days!

Big Lake Schools hosted their 2026 Career Day this week, marking the 11th year of the event. Students from 5th grade through high school had the opportunity to visit with representatives from nearly every employment category and learn about the many career paths available after graduation.

We really appreciate the opportunity to introduce students to the skilled trades, and, even better, give them a chance to try one.

Students get a little hands-on experience assembling their own toolbox while learning about careers in HVAC, roofing, architectural exteriors and sheet metal.

Not every great career starts with a four-year degree. Sometimes it starts with a pair of gloves, a few tools and the opportunity to build something with your own hands.

Thank you to Big Lake Schools for another great event and for helping students explore what their future could look like!

There’s more than one path into a career in HVAC.

Today, the McDowall Company team had the opportunity to visit Saint Cloud Technical & Community College and spend some time with wait-list, first- and second-year HVAC students, and they had some great questions!

What’s the difference between working for a residential or commercial contractor? Union or non-union? Construction or service? What does a typical day actually look like for an HVAC technician?

We also talked about internships and apprenticeships, continuing education after graduation, and the different career paths available as they gain experience in the trade.

One of the highlights was getting a tour of the HVAC lab where much of their hands-on training takes place. If you look closely at the pictures, there is a little bit of everything in there!

For students entering the trades, there isn’t one “right” career path. The important part is learning what opportunities are available and finding the one that fits you.

Thanks to Saint Cloud Technical & Community College for inviting us in and giving us the opportunity to visit with the next generation of HVAC professionals.

School is right around the corner!

Last week, several members of the McDowall Company team had the opportunity to volunteer at the Ready Set School event at Tech High School in St. Cloud.

If you've never seen this event in action, it's organized chaos in the very best way.

Volunteers work alongside teachers and community members to help distribute school supplies so educators can spend less of their own money outfitting their classrooms and more time doing what they do best: teaching.

As a company that spends so much of the summer working in schools across Central Minnesota, this event hit a little differently. We see firsthand the effort that goes into preparing schools for another successful year, and this was one more way we could help support the people who make it happen.

Thank you to everyone who organized, volunteered, and donated to make this event possible. We were proud to be a small part of something that will make a big difference for students and teachers throughout the upcoming school year.

We wish all of our local educators and students a fantastic start to the new school year!

What a great evening supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Central Minnesota at their annual Summer Benefit!

Several members of the McDowall Company team attended this year’s Grease Is the Word event, and we were proud to once again serve as a corporate sponsor. It was a fun night filled with great conversations, creative displays, and an incredible turnout from people and businesses committed to supporting local youth.

Thank you to the Boys & Girls Club team, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who helped make the evening such a success. The Club’s programs provide safe spaces, positive relationships, and valuable opportunities for young people throughout Central Minnesota, and we are grateful to support that mission.

Please consider joining us in supporting this important local organization: https://www.bgcmn.org/donate-online/

Happy National HVAC Technician Day!

Every mechanical contractor claims to have the best technicians in the business. We're fortunate enough to work with a team that gives us every reason to believe it's true at McDowall Company.

What makes our technicians special isn't just their technical expertise, it's their commitment to customer satisfaction, continuous training, safety, and doing the job the right way, every time. We are incredibly proud of the team we have built at McDowall Company.

Whether they're working through the heat of summer, the cold of winter, pouring rain, blowing snow, or the kind of humidity that makes you wonder if Minnesota has become tropical, our technicians show up every day ready to serve our customers. Their dedication helps ensure buildings remain comfortable, efficient, and prepared for whatever season comes next.

Today, we're celebrating the men and women who keep our schools, hospitals, offices, manufacturing facilities, and communities running behind the scenes.

If you see an HVAC technician today, take a moment to thank them for all they do.

Happy National Roofing Week 2026!

Today’s theme is Celebration!

While we do our best to show appreciation for our roofing crews throughout the year, National Roofing Week gives us the chance to pause, say thank you, and recognize the people who make our roofing division what it is.

This week, that recognition came in the form of breakfasts, lunches, and a little extra time spent celebrating our crews, because as we all know, the way to a roofer’s heart usually starts with food!

Our roofing teams work through early mornings, long days, changing weather, difficult details, and demanding schedules. Their hard work, skill, and commitment are what allow us to deliver quality roofing projects for our customers year after year.

As National Roofing Week comes to a close, we want to say thank you to every member of our roofing team. We appreciate your dedication, your craftsmanship, and the pride you take in your work.

You are a big part of what makes McDowall Company who we are!

Happy National Roofing Week 2026!

Today's theme is Training & Safety.

When people think about commercial roofing, they often think about the physical demands of the job. What many don't see is the extensive training, education, and commitment to safety that takes place behind the scenes.

To become a journeyperson roofer, an apprentice must complete:
🔹 144 classroom hours per year for three years
🔹 6,000 hours of on-the-job training
🔹 Extensive education in safety practices, roofing systems, materials, and installation techniques

At McDowall Company, we are proud to invest in the next generation of roofing professionals. From apprenticeship training to ongoing safety education, our goal is simple: ensure every employee has the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to perform their work safely and professionally.

That commitment to safety has helped us earn recognition from the State of Minnesota, but more importantly, it helps our team return home safely at the end of every day.

Happy National Roofing Week 2026!

Today's theme is Employee Appreciation.

With 17 active job sites, it's not always easy to get our crews to stop long enough for a photo. Most days they're more interested in getting the job done than being in the spotlight.

Our roofing teams are often on site before sunrise and work through everything Minnesota throws at them; cold mornings, summer heat, high winds, and this week's stifling humidity.

The roofs they install help protect schools, businesses, healthcare facilities, and community organizations throughout the region. While most people only see the finished roof, they don't always see the skill, dedication, and hard work required to build it.

This week, and throughout the year, we're grateful for the men and women who represent McDowall Company on rooftops across Minnesota.

Thank you for your commitment to quality craftsmanship, safety, and taking pride in your work.

National Roofing Week is about celebrating roofers, and we're proud to have some of the best in the industry.

Happy National Roofing Week 2026!

Today's theme is charitable giving.

One of the things we appreciate most about working in Central Minnesota is the opportunity to be part of something bigger than the projects we build.

The communities where we live and work are strengthened by organizations that support families, education, arts, history, recreation, and those in need. Throughout the years, McDowall Company has been proud to support many local organizations, including the United Way, Boys & Girls Clubs, Tri-County Humane Society, Great River Children's Museum, YMCA, Stearns History Museum, Paramount Center for the Arts, local schools, and many others.

For us, community involvement isn't about recognition. It's about supporting the organizations that help make Central Minnesota a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

As we celebrate National Roofing Week, we're reminded that the same people installing roofs, managing projects, and serving customers are also coaching youth sports, volunteering, supporting local causes, and investing in their communities.

We're grateful for the opportunity to give back and proud to work alongside roofing professionals who care about the communities they help build every day!
