This past Saturday, B+K, HENSEL PHELPS and ENPRO Environmental joined forces for the Annual CANstruction Honolulu honoring AIA Honolulu (American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter) 100th anniversary! It was a morning whirlwind of energy, fun, and teamwork. The teams transformed canned goods into stunning structures, all to support the Hawaii Foodbank.

This year’s CANstruction theme is “CANtennial: Design of the Decades” to celebrate AIA Hawai'i's 100th anniversary! Each team was assigned a decade from the 1920s to 2020s to highlight through cans, and we got the 1940s! Fun tidbit: Did you know that the first plastic molded toy bricks were made in 1949?

We chose to highlight the entry of women in the workforce with Rosie the Riveter re-imagined as a Lego figure. She reminds us that "We CAN Do It!"

🥫 We've got a lot at can-stake tomorrow!

This year, we're teaming up with HENSEL PHELPS and ENPRO Environmental to turn canned goods into a design that's sure to be a can-tastic tribute to AIA Honolulu (American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter) 100th Anniversary. The theme, "CANtennial: Design of the Decades!", celebrates a century of innovation, creativity, and community.

B+K is providing Construction Management services at the Kahului Airport South Terminal for the expansion of the existing walkway between the existing South Terminal Holdrooms A and B creating a new Holdroom, passenger gate, and loading bridge.

The project also features a new outdoor seating area and garden deck, enclosure of the existing open covered walkway at the second level concourse of the South Terminal, expanded aircraft parking, restriping of the aircraft parking positions and various detailed interior upgrades. All designed to enhance the passenger experience and airport operations!

This wraps up our final Hawaii Meals on Wheels community service event of 2026! 💛

Every delivery was about more than just a meal. It was an opportunity to connect with our community, sharing care and aloha with our kūpuna and adults with disabilities. We're grateful to our volunteers who showed up making a meaningful difference one delivery at a time.

This summer, 25 interns joined the B+K ʻohana across our Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, IT, Mechanical and Civil Engineering teams.

Throughout the program, they gained hands-on experience supporting real projects, connected with professionals from a variety of disciplines, and immersed themselves in B+K's collaborative culture.

Some of their highlights included:
✅ A "Talk Story" with B+K President, Brian Bowers.
✅ Visiting Hawaiʻi's first Living Building Challenge home in Pālolo Valley.
✅ Touring major infrastructure projects, including Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and the Honouliuli Water Recycling Facility.

These experiences provided a firsthand look at how design, engineering, and construction shape our communities across Hawaiʻi. Mahalo to our interns for their enthusiasm, fresh perspectives, and meaningful contributions throughout the summer. We look forward to seeing all that they accomplish in the future. The future of Hawaiʻi's engineering community starts with connection. 🤝

B+K was proud to support the ACEC Hawaii Summer Engineering Student Mixer, creating opportunities for students and professionals to connect, share career insights, and build relationships that can shape the future of Hawaiʻi's engineering community.

We enjoyed connecting with students from UH Mānoa and colleges across the mainland, hearing about their goals, answering thoughtful questions and sharing insights about careers in engineering. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were a great reminder of the talent shaping the future of our industry. Events like these help strengthen Hawaiʻi's engineering community by creating opportunities for mentorship, professional growth, and meaningful connections that can last throughout a career.

Mahalo to ACEC Hawaii for bringing students and professionals together and investing in the next generation of engineers!

Some projects do more than redefine architecture; they redefine what is possible.

Haleolaʻiliʻāinapono is a visionary home and creation of owner, Aaron Ackerman - it blends regenerative design, cultural stewardship, and architectural innovation into a single, inspiring achievement. At the AIA Honolulu (American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter) 68th Annual Design Awards Gala, Aaron’s Haleolaʻiliʻāinapono earned the evening’s highest honor, the Award of Excellence with recognition as the Residential Project Award winner.

As Hawaii’s first Living Building Challenge-certified home, the project demonstrates how architecture can move beyond sustainability to create lasting positive impact. Designed to generate 100% of its own energy and water, recycle wastewater on-site, and strengthen the connection between people and place, Haleolaʻiliʻāinapono is a powerful example of what's possible when innovation, stewardship, and resilience come together. E-S-O-P Energy in Full Swing! ⛳

Our B+K employee-owners came together for our Annual ESOP Meeting to celebrate what it means to be 100% employee-owned. From sharing company updates and engaging activities to meaningful connections and plenty of laughs, the day showcased the power of our B+K ownership culture.

We capped the day off with a friendly (and competitively fun!) golf tournament. Building teamwork on and off the course.
