Disclaimer: I want to address the concerns some people have raised about whether anyone was forced to work in these conditions.
The answer is no. No one was ever forced or expected to work in hazardous conditions, and we would never require anyone to work in an environment they didn't feel comfortable with.
The job in question was in Canton, where the air quality remained in the green from the morning through the early afternoon. Unfortunately, conditions worsened later in the day. At the time, we did not fully understand how quickly the air quality had deteriorated or the potential health risks associated with those levels. Everyone on the job wore N95 masks, and we hope they provided meaningful protection.
This was a new situation for us, and it has been an important learning experience. Once we better understood the health risks associated with the changing air quality, we immediately made the decision to cancel work on Friday.
We are a family-owned and operated business. The crew that day consisted of my wife, three of my sons, and me. None of us would ever knowingly put the people we care about—or any member of our team—in harm's way.
Going forward, we will take a much more cautious approach whenever air quality is a concern. The health and well-being of our family, our employees, and our customers will always be our highest priority
A little over 600' (about two football fields) of 5' high aluminum fence completed yesterday in some of the toughest conditions we've worked in. If we're being honest, we probably shouldn't have been out there.
My boys worked their butts off all week through extreme heat and some of the worst air quality we've seen because we knew what this project meant. Our customer has serious health issues, and getting this fence finished meant his dog could finally come back home. He's missed her terribly.
The guys are getting a well-deserved day off for a long weekend to rest up and clear their lungs. This poor air quality is no joke.
To our brothers and sisters in outdoor construction: please be careful and take care of yourselves.
We're grateful for another happy customer and an amazing crew that always gives it their all.
