Black plastic nursery pots are a terrible problem in the gardening world, with no good recycling solution yet embraced…. so off to the landfill’s they go…. As if we don’t have enough unsustainable issues with our environment!
This feedback from a a gardener in Texas was inspired by a a nursery owner in England (featured on an episode of Gardener’s World) who had come up with a brilliant idea to help recycle the pots of the plants being sold from his nursery. He calls his product POSipot (with POS standing for point of sale). (Have a look at this product online).
When a plant is purchased, they slide it out of the plastic pot and insert it into the POSipot, which is totally recyclable. (article: The American Gardener magazine, Member’s Forum).
This would a great idea for our American nurseries and garden centers… and all the more reason for us to buy from those who do!

If you are a big gardener or plant enthusiast, I highly recommend becoming a member of “The American Horticultural Society”. The annual membership fee is extremely affordable and their bi-monthly magazine “The American Gardener” (included in the membership fee) is excellent!
